what a relief! i have not liked my current g.i. at all and i finally have an appointment with a different one in his practice. i go in to see her on monday. she's the one who did my colonoscopy in august when i was in the hospital. she has such a nice bed side manner as opposed to my "lay it on the line no matter what" doctor i have now. i hope we can work better, and more honestly, than i am with my doctor now. i've been on 6mp and he hasn't had me get bloodwork since early october. i thought he was supposed to monitor stuff like this?

her name is geanina anghel. i currently see paul lebovitz and he's ALWAYS telling me to get on psychiatric medications. i just think he's so rude!

Oh good for you good bananagirl, my doctor looks like "Manish" and i'm sure behaves like him. Good luck to you, let us know how it goes.

Glad you changed doctors and hope you continue to like your new one. I changed doctors too but mostly because I hardly saw mine because he was always late that I had to see his assistant who is ok but I wanted a doctor. I see another dr in the practice and I love her...even though she can be late too but I eventually see her.

banana, you definitely need someone who is proactive. I've been getting blood work every few weeks to monthly for a while because I don't respond well to 6mp. I am sure it's not convenient for my GI to monitor my health but she does because she's a caring person. That's terrible that he hasn't been checking your blood work. I am happy you're seeing someone else. I hope you have good results :)

You definitely need someone you trust helping you in your care. It's always nice to have a caring doctor. I have been with my current GI for 15 years.

well, i saw my new doctor today! she is so nice. she did my colonoscopy when i was in the hospital in august and was shocked at how different i looked. i've gained like 23 lbs since she last saw me and i'm not blue anymore haha it was definitely a great appointment. i get to finish off on my 6mp- will be done in march and i get my next colonscopy in august to see if remicade is working. she was also much more thorough- she's ordered so much blood work on me- and she wants me to see a dermatologist and a gynocologist. i've never been to a gyno and don't really see a point but she wants me to have a pap smear. apparently, 6mp can mess with your fertility and cycle as well as put you at a greater risk for skin cancer. i need to get some moles checked. at least she brought this stuff up because my last doctor never mentioned any of this.

also, i asked her if i would have to be on remicade forever. she said that the united states is one of the only countries where people stay on remicade for years; however, in other countries, remicade is used for a short time 1-2 years to get you into remission and then you use a less severe maintenance drug. she said i could do either or because both approaches can work. she is from romania and that is what they did when she was there. i wonder why this is? do you think it's because other countries have free health care and remicade is very expensive? i'm just curious. i should've asked her.

well, i'm gonna go get my bloodwork now. she checked off 21 different boxes on my lab sheet! ahhh i'll definitely be driving home with one arm haha

thanks, guys. just got back from quest diagnostics. i've never gotten so much blood taken from me before. my arm is dead. they took 8 vials of it. hopefully, everything turns out good.

the lab lady was telling me how blood donations are really down. i wish i could donate blood. do any of you donate blood even though you take medications? apparently, since tattoos are so popular now, you need to wait 2 years after your tattoo until you can donate due to hiv and hepatitis. i'd love to donate after i get off some of my heavy duty meds if it's possible. blood donations saved my dad's life and it would be great to be able to help people.

I got a squamous cell cancer on my lower leg that I am positive was due to 6mp because I always wore sunblock to the point that people here in Florida made fun of how white I was.

The skin cancer removal was a painful procedure, very painful because of how deep has to be cut to make sure none is left behind. Crutches for 7-10 days and a $$$ bill over and above what insurance paid (I didn't know that was coming, didn't understand that part). Bummer about the whole thing especially since 6mp never did anything positive for me and gave me dizziness and general feeling like crap all day long, no energy.

Good luck with your new doc, she sounds like a keeper.

well, i ended up going to a gynecologist today for the first time because my gastro said i should get things checked. i have never seen one before and i wasn't sure what was gonna happen. all in all, i will NEVER go back to one again. i screamed and cried during that darn pap smear. nobody told me it would hurt like this! i honestly don't see the point of a pap smear if i have had an HPV vaccination (which i don't even know what i got in the first place).
