Pat,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm more than happy to help in any way I can .
I'm so glad you pushed back, when your GI suggested surgery. Good for you!
And I'm thrilled he agreed to prescribe the LDN.
The majority of the folks who did very well, very quickly on LDN (albeit oral or transdermal) did so because they were mostly on SCD diet or certainly dairy, wheat, and gluten free. IMO all those "irritants" inflame our guts/colons which never allow the inflammation to go down. LDN is an immune regulator, and it will "gear up" your system in the way it needs so that healing can occur. However, if you keep adding daily "irritants" to the equation, it never allows LDN to do its work.
That's the reason I asked you about diet. Once you've been taking LDN for 6 months +, alot of the healing has already taken place, and some folks can actually add back some of those "irritants" although perhaps on more of an occasional basis rather than daily basis. Unfortunately, we've all been programmed to believe, eat, get addicted to foods which are just not very healthy for us (you know the list as you've read the Mercola articles). As I mentioned before, I do cheat once in a while, but when I do, I take care to double my slippery elm/VSL#3 cocktail to ensure the least damage. The way I look at it, all these irritant foods are inflammatory, and since we know inflammation is the cause of disease (IBD, UC, many others including cancer), why chance it? But I know it's hard - due to cultural indoctrination :(
So, when I started on transdermal LDN, on day FOUR I started to see major results, then within a week bleeding stopped entirely.
I was pretty much on SCD, with occasional cheating when I started LDN, and believe that's why I did so well, so quickly.
I've heard the same scenario from others, and for those who've tried LDN and stayed on their non-SCD diet, it takes a little longer (a few weeks to see the changes).
BTW, when I tried the oral LDN with avicel filler (which I had a reaction to), I got the "flu" for about 24 hours, which I attribute to LDN gearing up my immune system. I had to end up switching to transdermal because of my allergic reaction to the avicel filler and malabsorption issues as well - and the only side effects I got then, was very vivid dreams, no sleeplessness.
I rather enjoyed the vivid dreams! On that note, I would caution you to make sure whatever you experience (whether in a book, on tv, or environment) within a few hours of sleep should be pleasant and calming to ensure your vivid dreams will be pleasant. I've heard of some who love horror movies and watch them before going to sleep... well guess what kind of vivid dreams they experienced? Nightmares! Not a whole lot of fun :(
Now, as far as putting on the LDN: you'll be applying the dosed cream anywhere between 10pm and 2 am (via a syringe type implement) to your skin and rubbing it in, until it's mostly absorbed. Then you'll let it air dry - which will take about 15 minutes. You can wash it off in the morning, and it won't have any effect on the LDN absorption. I would highly recommend your switching the sites of application, alternating left and right sides of: the back of the forearm -area above the wrist where the veins are prominent, top of the hands, top of the feet. These are all areas where the skin is thin, and veins are prominent.
I'd like to give you my personal email so that if you have any questions, I can answer them directly for you, and also so we can keep in touch: [email protected]. Feel free to be in touch. I would love to hear from you.
Let me know if there's something I've omitted addressing for you.
I'll be cheering for you.
Sorry for the long post.
