Yes, over the last 8 months I've undertaken a series of Human Probiotic Infusions (HPIs) for chronic and debilitating IBS and am slowly but surely getting better. I initially had the procedure done at the Centre for Digestive Diseases in Australia (world leader in the field) but have subsequently found myself a donor and now do regular Home Infusions.
I've started an online information resource as I'm concerned that many people are doing 'backyard' fecal transplants without access to the information they need regarding selection of a healthy donor, testing, risks and what to expect. Although the procedure is gradually gaining attention in the medical profession, many of us are too sick to wait for them to catch up.
My site includes a section Is HPI for You that outlines some of the factors to take into account in making the decision. It also includes FAQs, useful links and a growing list of the few clinics that offer the service.
There is no hidden agenda in my website and I don't make money from it. My aim is twofold. Firstly to collate information that will help people with gut problems make an informed decision. Secondly to provide moral support to cyber-sufferers like myself who have no where left to turn but the internet when the medical profession has often abandoned us, or made us worse.
I am not a doctor and do not aim to give medical advice. My aim is to tell my story in the hope that it will help others and direct them to the information they need to make an informed decision.
Another great resource for on home fecal transplants is the Environment Illness Resource Centre, where you will find a great deal of informed debate / discussion on the procedure.
All the best on your journey to good health!
