I've noticed that since I've developed UC; I cannot stand strong smells anymore. I used to drown myself in certain perfumes and now I cannot even stand the slightest bit of them. This is going to sound weird but before UC, I used to love the smell of gasoline and permanent markers and now I feel like I'm going to vomit whenever I get a whiff. Is this normal with UC or you think this is something serious?
Also, I've noticed some vision changes. Everything seems very dull to me. There never seems to be enough light in the room. I wear glasses and I often feel like maybe the lens of my glasses are dirty but that's never the case. I don't know if this is normal with UC but it's really scaring me! My vision has gotten a lot worse as well. My optometrist had told me that my eye sight was levelling and it shouldn't get any worse (before my UC) and now when I went to see him, my eye sight got A LOT worse (I was diagnosed with UC a year ago). Should I go see a specialist or something about
this?
I don't know how serious these changes are. The smell thing I can handle but the eye sight thing is just really scaring me. My eyes have gotten so much smaller too -_- Again, don't know if this is UC related.

I don't know about
the sense of smell but I think I have read on here that people have had vision changes with pred use. :( Did you mention what meds you were taking when at the eye doctor?

I told him I was taking Imuran and Prednisone and he told me that it was not likely that those medications caused the change in my eye sight. I didn't tell him anything about
the brightness issue. That just started not too long ago.

I get the vision part, and yes prednisone definitely can be a cause for change in eye vision, I dont know what doctor would tell you otherwise... my eye doctor even knew this.

No doubt that the Prednisone can cause your vision issues. I too noticed my vision getting foggy. Whereas usually I only needed my glasses to drive at night, I had to start wearing my glasses more and more often. I had a successful taper of steriods a couple weeks ago and noticed that I haven't used my glasses in a while. Unfortunately, I am back on 40 mg of Prednisone and I am feeling the need for my glasses again.
My husband says that since my UC started my sense of smell has become uncanny. I can tell everytime the cat visits the litter box!

So I guess these changes are normal for people with UC. I hope the blurriness and the lack of brightness goes away soon! Do any of you see an eye specialist?
