Entocort AND 40 mg prednisone at the same time?

Long story-

Just after the holidays things were great, I was down to 10 mg prednisone but not off it yet, had a mild increase in symptoms and bumped it up to 15 mg. I saw my GI for a regular check up and he wanted me off prednisone right away
because I was starting to have joint issues. He prescribed entocort ec. I was to do a rapid taper of pred 5 mg every week.

Apparently there was a mix up in the new prescription of entocort, and the box said one a day... I was SUPPOSED to take
3 a day and needless to say the rapid taper and lack of entocort left me in a full on flare, again. I started to take the 3 a day as soon as they noticed but it was too late.

My GI now wants me to take 40mg of prednisone AND the 3 Entocort EC at the same time to get this flare under control immediately. Im kinda freaked out, Im a pretty petite woman, my head is spinning-

Any thoughts?

No, I don't think this is a good idea or common practice. Why does your GI suggest this? I don't know how much you weigh but are you on 1mg/kg of pred? If so, that's your max effective dose? If not, you can increase? Another option is hospital for IV pred to get it into your system faster?

Okay so that's 54mgs of pred that would be your dose. If you're bleeding heavily then you might need IV pred. Yes, I think that entocourt is more local acting and less systemic but I don't think it's normal to be on both. I remember a case of a chlld here who was once on both in a bad flare but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone else. I think that's a lot of steroid and I don't know that they're indicated to work together. Maybe higher dose of pred and enemas would be a better bet? Maybe others will have more info for you? I hope your flare settles down asap.

I am in a similar boat. I am now 120lbs (gained 10 pounds in the past week on prednisone) and I have been taking 40 mg of prednisone for the past 4 1/2 weeks. Today I had some formed stool but the blood is still there. My doctor suggested that I do another night of 40mg altogether and start tapering tomorrow to 35mg for 5 days. I am concerned about how I will feel as I begin to taper the dosage.

Do you take all the the prednisone at once? At first I was taking 20mg in the AM and 20mg in the PM and the results were very slow. Now that I am taking it all at once things are happening faster. I am having more side effects but at least the symptoms are improving.
