Remission progressive?????

I've had my first- ever flare over the holidays (T-giving, c-mas). Only lasted 5 wks.

When my BM's were non bloody and forming (still yellow-mushy), for 3 weeks after the worst of the flare, I decide to go to 3 instead of 4 Lialda that I've been on.

The result was that for 2 days I went back to perfectly normal BM! But there was a drop of blood on the toilet tissue, so I went back to the 4 Lialda.

Now, 3 days later, I feel like I'm going backward. Groans in my abdomen all day, and my BM's are getting mushier and bloody.

Am I going to go backwards to the flare stage and need heavier meds to get back out?? Or does this disease do what it pleases and go back and forth?

I have not been fully diagnosed yet. I'm going for another colonoscopy mid March because he's not sure whether it's left-sided UC, or is/was Ischemic.

He couldn't finish the first colonoscopy because of fear of perforation because my entire bowels were inflamed.

I'm on 4 Lialda a day, One BM in the morning, no urgency. So far...

No, I've eaten pretty much what I wanted since the start of this and had a few weeks flaring badly, then I've since had steady progress on my remission, still eating whatever I please.

Only thing I've noticed is more gas from coffee, so I switched to tea and I stay away from raw veggies, because they gave me bad cramps.

I've not been sick long enuf to get a better feel for what works or doesn't, unfortunately- yet.

I just was asking because it seems like no-one else has fallen backwards once they started in remission. Or at least this quickly still being on the meds that brought them to remission.

NSSG- No, no rectals used. Maybe it is just a few bad days. I'm just all stressed out about going back into a flare I guess.

Right now, with my abdomen gurgling all day, I'm afraid to go back to 3 Lialda.I I actually took an xtra one today thinking I could make up for the ones I skipped, lol. Probably doesn't work that way.

OK, well I'm just gonna chill out and stop looking at my poop everyday and appreciate that I'm at where I'm at.

I think I just got it in my head that this is like the Flu- get sick, recover, feel better til the next time. I didn't expect to get sick, start to feel better, get sick again. Guess I'll have to change my expectations.

Coffeeman---I strongly advise you speak with your doc about using the suppository Canasa. I have been using them for two years+ and the colitis is well under control. Prior to my using Canasa I was hospitalized with rectal bleeding and now that is no longer an issue.
I know using a daily suppository is not the most pleasant experience but hey, it works for me.God luck.

Yes, those would probably be effecitve. Rowasa is mesalamine enema. I always get the generic that's called perrigo. Canasa is a suppository which some find easier to retain when they have inflammation but the dose of Canasa is 1g vs Rowasa 4g. I usually do tthem before bed and fall asleep while using the enema. I squeeze the air out of the bottle into the sink before use too, otherwise, it can cause gas and more discomfort. When I am in or close to remission, they are easy to retain. When I am flaring, they can cause some discomfort for the first few minutes but if I am able to breathe deeply and relax, I usually fall asleep and make it through the night.

Probably right! Altho going to reg. tea did make a big difference a few weeks ago. I was able to tolerate the caffeine from that, possibly because I drank less of it than coffee, and it has less acid.

As soon as my UC was doing better, I returned to coffee- it's very, very hard to stop!
