Mutaflor probiotic

I used Mutaflor and I really liked it. It has proven results with UC.
I can still be purchased in Europe and Canada, but not in US because of the FDA.

Has anyone else used Mutaflor, and does anyone know when it may be available again here?

I used it starting a month or so after diagnosis. I though at the time it helped but I was taking other probiotics at the same time including VSL#2 cultured yogurt. There is quite a bit of science behind Mutaflor. It is very expensive and I got some bad vibes from the distributor who I think is also the distributor in Canada. At best a low rent operation. I cut the dosage in half after 3 months and stopped at about 6 months. Did not change my condition at all. FDA stopped it shortly after.

It's really hard to tell with supplements because effects are usually subtle. I kind of agree with FDA on general principle even though I think Mutaflor has more than reasonable track record in particular. In use I believe for 80+ years.

The FDA has reclassified it as a drug(I think) instead of a medical food. THat means it needs full clinical trials and I assume RX status for some time. That is expensive and without a patent not going to happen

in Europe/Germany Mutaflor is an otc-remedy which you can buy only in a pharmacy, but it is also available on prescription in case of mesalazine-intolerance at UC in remission.
So it´s used instead of mesalazine (=mesalamine) to keep in remission, but not during an active inflammation.

I used Mutaflor for about a year before it was banned in the U.S. It was a good probiotic, but not superior to VSL3. I used it along with VSL3, S. Boulardii, and Culturelle. They are all good and seemed to work synergistic-ally.
