What is the best thing for rectal pain?

If you are having a lot of rectal pain due to Uc, in between the rectal meds, you can ask your doctor for lidocaine suppositories/cream. This will help numb up the area. I am not sure this can be bought otc tho. However, with lidocaine supps you may not feel if you have a bm coming out so you might get some leakage. You can also try sitting in a warm bath or a sitz bath.

I agree with Red34 and I will add that epsom salts in my tub is one of my go to solutions, also lying down on your sides also helps. I'm on disability for my UC and another medical issue so I can go to couch or bed as needed.

My UC doctor also told me that Valium has helped a lot of folks with rectal pain. I have to agree. I only take it when I'm in significant pain and don't have to go too far or drive much. I take Vicodin sometimes too. Depends on what else is going on in my body and what responsibilities I have for that moment. Plus the Vicodin is constipating which is not bad for me when I've got loose stools along with the rectal pain. I am not a big fan of pain meds for the obvious reasons, but I am so eternally grateful that I've got them for when I need them!!
