Hi, I am new to this group but I have been on the fibromyalgia group for about a year now.  I was just diagnosed with Lymphocytic colitis.  This was after 2 months of non stop diarrhea and still going. My primary doctor referred me to a GI doctor and he did a colonoscopy.  I had antibiodic induced colites 4 years ago but as soon as they gave me medication and IVs in the hospital for 2weeks that was gone. 

I have my follow apt. with him on Thursday this week.  Do any of you have this?  I see this is the UC form but it combined it with all IBD's. 

What questions should I be asking my doctor? 

How dibilitating is this? 

Do many people go on dissability for this?

From what I read on the Mayo Clinic website (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/collagenous-colitis/DS00824) lymphocytic colitis and collagenous colitis seem to be just a variation of UC where visible ulcerations have not yet formed.

I am unsure about your reference to antibiotic colitis. Unless this was some sort of distress to the colon (not the immune system) caused by a particular antibiotic (e.g., an allergic reaction), I wonder if you have not just been in remission since last time. Many folks here suspect antibiotics is altering their gut flora, leading to development of UC if they had the unlucky genetic predisposition.

It would be good to nail down this question of whether you had UC and have been in remission, because that would suggest you should be on a regular maintenance program even if/when this flare gets cleared up. Ask about that.

I am sure you could probably go on disability. is your colitis caused by medication you are taking/ I know there are types of colitis caused by stress, chemo drugs and others that do not cause damaging inflamation and do not cause fatality but cause a whole world of discomfort. Have they put you on probiotics? sometimes less medicine is better if you havent taken probiotics I would start. I hope you feel better. the best advice I could give you since you are newer to the diarhea life is stay hydrated, choke your vitamins down, eat what is mild and would settle your tummy and carry wet naps and or toilet paper in your purse;)
