Pouch surgery - how successful is it?

I believe it has a very good success rate but the question that worries me more is, what is the typical quality of life after surgery? If I am on the toilet 8x a day, that's a lot more than I go while having UC. Of course, I am fortunate I am able to control my UC right now, if it were not controlled, I would be begging for 8x a day! There is another sute called j-pouch.org and an Ostomy board here on HW where you will probably get a better response. Most of the people here haven't had surgery. I wish you luck in finding a solution that works for your son. I have seen a lot of post j-pouch surgery people here on HW and many have had VERY good results.

It has a 90-95% success/satisfaction rate but you must have a highly skilled surgeon who has done many procedures. This surgery has been a Godsend for me as hard as it was to come to terms with. I could not function in my daily life...my UC was very severe so it has litterally given me my life back.
