proctitis pain and infection

So in the past couple weeks when my symptoms got a little worse.  I really hadn't had much pain at all.  Then I started getting tenesmus or whatever it's called and after I passed formed stool I would ache inside for a while.  Kind of achy and throbbing sensation.  Could I have an infection or something that was related to the proctitis?

Or is that just proctitis?  I've never really had the exact symptoms I'm having now since I was diagnosed in 1999.  Again I'm hoping I didn't ruin my chances of healing with the cor suppos. and enemas for months....

Also how long does it take for Prednisone for work once you've been in a flare a good long time?  I've been on 30 since Thursday.  GI said it's not enough time.  I just want to see a bigger difference soon.

Scared today...

It sounds to me like normal proctitis :(

If you're really concerned about an infection, I'd make an appointment to see the GI and get it looked at but I've had rectal pain, throbbing and pressure when I was flaring.

I was in a long flare and I was able to turn thiings around pretty quickly. I think each flare is its own beast and you have ot be patient. 30 mg isn't that high of a dose, most of the time I see people starting at 40mg. I hope you're able to turn this around quickly.

The thing that helped my husband was using Hydrocortiosne enemas- sometimes 2 times a day and when everything was under control he used Rowasa nightly for several weeks for the exact symptoms you are describing.

your oral prednisone dose is really not very high. My young daughter who weighed about 70 lbs was taking 40mg of Pred
a day for 3 weeks before starting to wean...

I know I asked the nurse but she said stay on the 30 for two weeks, if I'm not better they would move up my appt. I do not want to see her though because it's going to be about 6mp and I'm not quite there yet. If the Prednisone LDn combo doesn't work, I will have to try something else.

I think they should have done the 40 2 weeks ago and I'd probably be heading out of this mess.

Glad to hear this sounds like Proctitis. That is bad enough. I've never had the pain before now.

I have been on 40mgs since friday morning because of proctitis, and no change either.....I have to take vicodin my pain is so bad, and constant...Usually it takes me 10 days before the pred brings relief

It took me several weeks before I saw an improvement at 40mg of Prednisone with my current flare. It took me a full 8 weeks before I felt good enough to taper the dose. I was diagnosed with severe UP in January. In May 2005 I was diagnosed with Pancolitis and took 60mg. I started feeling better within 1 week. I am not saying a higher dose is the answer for you but just letting you that there are higher doses. Try taking some tylenol for pain or ask your GI for something stronger. Are you having a lot of diarrhea? If you start to have sharp pain in the rectum call your doc because you could have a tear due to a lot of diarrhea.

Are you taking any rectal meds? Foam or enemas?

What do they do for a tear in the rectum? I think I may have one

I have had a fissure which is a tear and they didn't really do anything for me. My GI said I should take sitz baths but really, the only thing that helped was time. I am thankful for each day I have without a tear. I seem to get them here and there regardless of whether I am flaring. They are sooooo painful!
