     I heard of the SCD diet.  I tried it but it didn't work.  What exactly is the GAPS diet?

I was going to post to you too. I tried GaPs and it didn't work for me. I'm sure I need to try it again though. We were diagnosed the same year and seem to be onto the same things. Would love chatting with you further especially about Gaps. Also I am surprised your GI let you off the Remicaide. Doesn't it stop working for you if you go off? I feel like if I start that I'll have a battle getting off. Very intersted in more of your story.

i read about it after she posted it, too. i could never follow it since i am vegan. it is very high fat and high protein full of meat and dairy. basically, the heart disease and cancer diet.

You don't have to do dairy on Gaps, but the grass fed animal products are part of the healiing. There is a lot of science to the GAPS diet and it is not true that it will cause cancer and heart disease. I've done a ton of research on it and it is a misconception that grassfed animal products and good fats will cause either one. I can send you info info you are every interested. However it is your personal choice to be vegan of course :)

GAPS is a bit more intense than SCD with a clear introduction period that really sets the system for healing the gut. It's a tough road but truly worth it in my book. Seasons21, my "GI" doctor disapproved of my desire to get off meds and so I stopped going to see him. I don't agree with most common procedures/protocols in the conventional medical system. I speak about my distaste in my story. I found a doctor that wouldn't EVER think of giving remicade, 6mp, prednisone or any of those other symptom-hiding drugs.

Thanks seasons21 about clarifying the fats myth. Part of the reason why we are all diseased with so many problems (GI issues, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, hypothyroidism) is because of that fat myth that most people believe to be true. We need ample saturated fats and cholesterol to function optimally - they were both deemed bad several decades ago and look what's happening to all of us. Fats are HUGE to heal the gut. That becomes your fuel on the GAPS diet. Fats are they way that nature intended us to survive.

I know SO many people that have done very well on GAPS. Not just digestive disease but other autoimmune as well.

Please don't disregard it. Actually, you can do the GAPS diet if you are vegetarian but not vegan. I have seen many turn from their vegan ways and then truly get better with many conditions. Again, like previously said, we all have a choice:)

     OH...if it is a high fat diet, then forget it.  A high fat diet is what threw me into UP in the first place.  I was following the Atkins Diet for two weeks when all Hell broke loose.....diarrhea, blood, cramps, etc.  My GI doctor told me it was just a coincidence, but you cannot make me believe that!

     I had surgery, total colectomy with end ileo, but was just curious as to what is the GAPS diet.

GAPS is definitely not like Atkins. It is high fat but not necessarily like atkins....ie any dairy (no milk) is whole and fermented so very gut friendly. the right fats help rebuild the gut lining. Also the other foods that you were consuming within the atkins diet could have been the issues.
