current symtoms on 40mg

So tomorrow is my appointment with the new GI.  I am praying this is a good match.  I don't want to feel intimidated anymore.  I want to be able to work with them and make decisions based on me individually and not on a checklist of meds.  I really hope this goes well.

So today seemed a little better this morning.  I had 3bms in the morning.  2 were formed.  The most formed I have seen.  They still had b and m in them but the quality of stool looked better.  I did have a lot of achy pain for hours after though.  That settled through the day.  I was feeling positive about that.  about 12 hours later now  at around 10:30pm I just had the 4th bm and it was purely liquid.  I guess it was mucous mixed with blood.  It settled to the bottom and did not color the water red, but there was red on tp.  What does that mean?  Why have formed stool in the am and liquid at night?  No major pain with it.  This is day 3 on 40mg of Prednisone (took 30 for over a week prior).  I know I probably need more time on the 40 but can I still remain hopeful that the 40 will do more soon? 

I'm taking all 40 at once right now around 11am.  Last night I barely slept at all.  Still taking 4.5mg transdermal LDN too.

I sound like a newbie after 13 years of having UC but this is the first time it's been exactly like this.

I've had UC for almost 12 yrs and one of the things you have to fight for is a good GI doctor, even if you have to switch 20x's to finally find one. I've been blessed with two awesome GI doctors but the first one was terrible. I read your post will pray tonight that tomorrow your doctor will be an angel, also you questioned why in the morning you were feeling better with your BM's that is because Prednisone wears off. This is the experience that I've had when I take 40mg in the morning I feel better than at night. Prednisone works as an anti-inflammatory it also controls your diarrhea this is why after you take 40mg you feel more controlled, steroids shuts down all your adrenal glands in your body so everything works slower, less diarrhea. Another thing my GI told me to always take Prednisone before 9:00a.m. and steroids unfortunately keep you up at night especially in the beginning. I am also at 40mgs and take mine in the morning as well, and I also get no sleep at night. Hopefully you will be able to taper off of it soon. Prednisone works, but it is pretty awful to be on. I have a whole post dedicated to it in my blog (click on the link below). Good luck with your GI tomorrow. I know I feel blessed to have one I'm happy with. Unfortunately, she's out of town right now and I just saw a "substitute" yesterday who was a bit of a joke. Will look forward to having my regular doc back. Good luck with the sleep issue - so far I have found nothing that works, so just trying to get off the pred ASAP.

Thank you. Your post was so kind. I thank you for your prayers! I have been praying like you wouldn't believe lately. God is my only peace in this. Yes I hope today goes well. I know my GI is good as far as she is competent and always gets billed a top doc in CT but I just can't worry about talking to her anymore. I get nervous just thinking about talking with her and her nurse is worse. So condesending. This guy is a GI but he is a DO not an MD. My integrative doc said he will work with me and is compassionate. I hope he is today. As far as sxs it makes sense that the Prednisone wears off however even though there is liquid at night, but the morning I am having formed stool with blood. It actually looks better again before I take my next dose.

Thank you! Love the blog! I hope your GI returns soon, glad to hear you are happy with yours. Your sig says tapering Imuran? Why are you tapering? What are your plans to manage the Uc going forward if nothing is working? Looks like you've tried natural things too. I pray you can manage things and be in a solid remission asap!

seasons, it sounds like you're starting to see some improvement. I am happy that you decided to go up to 40mg. I think you definitely have to be patient but it sounds like you're on the path to healing.

Good luck today!

I had very inconsistent symptoms like you describe when on pred as well.  Somtimes I would have "D", blood, watery with and without visible blood straingt for several days and then I would have a formed stool with litte to no blood once a day but never consistently...
