For those of you with pouchitis - I had some surgery gone wrong and have had serious complications with bloating, gas, cramping and way too many BMs. I was seeing many gastroentrologists who finally referred me to a surgeon to have an illeostomy due to the threat of rectal cancer. To deal with this I chose to 1) obtain a hand shower with a pulse spray and use it to wash my rectum in my shower after each bowel movement. This would usually encourage me to release gas and some fecal material in my shower and 2) to get a rectal syringe, and a plastic glass to fill it, to administer multiple enemas in my shower that cleans me out and allows me to get out the the house for four to six hours at a time. Also allowed me to get off of drugs and to sleep through the night. So, essentially using my shower as a bidet has helped me immensely. I use Calmoseptine ointment to ease the enemas. Really not much of a problem. This gets me to where I should have been after the surgery albeit with a some effort on my part. So, a hand shower, Alson's 465 or 435, good water pressure, a rectal syringe from any drug store, Calmoseptine ointment. I also use Nupercainal as another rectal ointment.
