Just so you know I put in for disability protection with human resources. A form you fill out establishing that you have a serious chronic illness and the company, in this case, the California State Assembly, needs to understand and make reasonable accommodations. The doctor, of course, signs it.
Even if I don't need the protection that much you never know. I also wanted my hours changed to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to get out of the trafficky commute. Sometimes I've had to stop on the way because of urgency. After 9, the commute time is half.
Any rate, a decision was made by personnel to make this reasonable accommodation.
The forms I had to fill out weren't very conducive to an understanding of ulcerative colitis. It was more carpal tunnel, blindness, inability to walk,
But I think they were able to get it eventually. There was someone else they had to accommodate who was always disappearing into the bathroom, and they couldn't figure out why and finally learned the reason.
Docs were happy to supply their signature on to anything I wanted and that was really the determining factor. I could ask for all I wanted but the doc, in this case, my pcp had to sign off. He got a letter of rec from my GI.
Anyone get into this situation?
