so finally made it through the screening process and today was the first day i administered the budesonide rectal foam. apparently this is already approved in other countries for use (i'm in the US).
study is sponsored by Salix: " A phase 3 randomized double blind, placebo controlled multicenter study to assess the efficacy and safety of budesonide foam vs placebo in subjects with active mild to moderate ulcerative proctitis or proctosigmoiditis"
I hope i get the real drug not the placebo.
I have high hopes for this med, basically i have been flaring since 2008 with a sloooooooow improvement. In 2008 i had pancolitis but in patches, and through cscopes in 2008, 2009 and now 2012, it is showing gradual healing of my colon. Feb 2012 scope showed just a 4 inch isolated patch in my sigmoid and nothing else. But i can't seem to get in remission since august 2008.
Had a sigmoidoscopy yesterday prior to starting the study so they could see the extent of the involvement, and its pretty much the same since feb. went gluten free in feb but i guess it really isnt helping me.
been on daily rowasa for well over a year(and pretty much since 2008 start of the flare up) . gave up caffeine, gave up chocolate, gave up fast food, limited sugar, gluten free since feb ( a couple of cheats after 1 month). i added homemade kefir.
before my feb colonoscopy my gi was thinking of putting me on imuran but after seeing the results, she didnt think it was necessary for this one isolated patch.
so can you see why i have high hopes for this budesonide foam, *crosses fingers*
i'll keep you all posted and let you know ho wht emed (or placebo) is working
