Why would someone with a small hemorrhoid need to see a surgeon?

I'm in between GI doctors right now. My current one doesn't seem to show me much respect and he always blows me off, even in person. But he put me on Canasa suppositories in the day and Rowasa enemas at night. I definitely have an internal hemorrhoid situation which was bleeding earlier this week. I can't nail down a response from the current GI as to whether or not I'm having a proctitis flare or I'm just dealing with hemorrhoids. So I made an appt for Monday with a new GI doctor. But I called the current one today because I've been experiencing burning or stinging when using the canasa. The nurse called me back and said the doctor said it could be because I have an open wound inside there and that if the canasa/rowasa combo doesn't work, he would send me to a surgeon. I didn't ask for more details only because I'm seeing a new GI doc on Monday. But it has peeked my interest as to why he would throw in the towel already with me over what he called "a small hemorrhoid". What would a surgeon do for me? The nurse mentioned something about compounding medicine. I still can't understand why they can't give me anything besides canasa and rowasa for a hemorrhoid.

Any opinions would greatly be appreciated.

I'm seeing the new GI doc on Monday. I'm bringing a copy of the biopsy from my colonoscopy last year. Hopefully this new doctor will be more patient with me. When I asked my current GI why I get bloating and gas his response was "you and every other woman that comes into my office." When I was there two weeks ago and asked if my symptoms were due to proctitis or hemmies he told me "he wasn't going to get into that right now. He's just treating my symptom as my appt was worked into the schedule." Since I was having rectal bleeding I felt it was a relevant question to ask.

You need to dump that GI---FAST! How disrespectful!

My GI mentioned that I would need to see a surgeon if I had a tear in the rectum. At the time I was have 20+ bloody D and all of a sudden I started have immense sharp pain. He said that so much D over a long period of time could have worn out the lining and caused the tear. Luckily I has some percocet handy and I took it (with the okay of the GI) for a day and started to feel better. Things seemed to have healed on their own and after a week the pain was gone. I have never had hemorrhoids so I do not know how to compare the two. This is what he may have been referring too when he suggested a surgeon.

You really need to find a new GI.

IF HEMMIES , I AM USING PREH H WIPES AND CREAM AND RUBBING VIT E OIL ON RECTUM, ALSO THE TWO MINI BATHES JUST LIKE 15 MINS CAN REALLY HELP . CAN YOU FEEL THEM BULGING ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR BUTTHOLE ( SORRY TO BE GRAPHIC)?

sheila, it may not be a rule but it's a courtesy thing....I don't read posts/replies that are in all caps because they are harder to read through...especially long ones. It's a simple request not to do it and we're all sick here and there's enough drama with that let alone something as petty as typing in all caps.

Just wanted to chime in with another vote for "yes typing in all caps does bother others".
