Anyone see this about the "new colonoscopy."  I'm sure it doesn't apply to us UC'ers but still an awesome improvement.

I agree, Quincy. And since I have to get them every other year (yearly if there's any inflammation or not an excellent prep), I don't know that I'd want all that x-ray exposure, either.

What I need is someone to invent a prep that involves taking one pill, then drinking that gallon of water over a six-hour period. I could tolerate that!

Yes, I truly believe that them being able to take biopsies during a scope is of the most importance for our health...you never know when those polyps/ulcers might be cancerous. Easier doesn't always mean better unfortunately.

I think that a standard c-scope would still be best, even for those w/o UC - maybe just reserve this new test for people who refuse to have a regular c-scope.

Fruitgirl - that's what I think. I have a few family members and friends w/o IBD who refuse to have scopes done. At least they would be able to be screened for cancer with this technology. Better than nothing.

Nothing new here, just another example of reporters haveing no idea of what they are talking about. This is nothing more than a CT scan; and in no way is it some new fangled probe free method of doing a Cscope.

At best it might be an indication of who does or does not need to have a scope, just as occult blood screening does now.

I agree with Wodin. Ye olde c-scope remains the gold standard for detection/removal of growths + tissue biopsy to detect dysplasia. As pb4 says, easier is not necessarily better. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Easier isn't necessarily safer either. Radiation anyone?
