Good paper on prebiotics and synbiotics with a list of many clinical studies. Personally, have never done well with any probiotics that contain prebiotics- that is, fermentable oligosacharide sugars such as FOS, MOS, or GOS designed as fuel for probiotics- and there is confirmation in the paper that they can provide fuel for certain pathogenic bacteria and could theoretically be problematic,, although the thrust of the paper is to examine their benefits to so-called functional foods.
