IBS isn't IBD (though the scientists behind the MAP theory of IBD consider it a form of IBD also caused by MAP), but many of us have concurrent IBS, and clearly bacterial populations are altered in IBD, so this is not really OT:

It doesn't surprise me, it is sad though that not much is understood about either IBD or IBS...I have both, my GI figures I developed IBS as a result of having years of flaring with my IBD and for the most part, being a severe IBD flare at that. I also have lactose intolerance issues that come and go (over a few years period) but that's another pile of crap to deal with, although it's easier to deal with the lactose intolerance issues when it arrises compared to the IBD and IBS issues.

I've read and heard that probiotics are essential for aiding with IBS as well as daily fibre intake and regular exercise.

Interesting. Blood indicating IBD not IBS. I think its likely if you treat with this ( because you have both ) you never get to the bloody IBD flare up.

I was just reading that the lack of bile acids in the small intestine allow for bacterial overgrowth.
I wonder if low fat diets might be causing this in some people.

Old Mike, Asia would be loaded with IBD/IBS/overgrowths and America would have the lowest if low fat diets caused bacterial overgrowth.

Rixfixamin can be used for IBD, check out this study. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22180705

And yes, IBS is bacterial related, no crap! (pun intended :P ) This is what many experts have been suggesting for yearsss. Glad the Western medical community is slowly accepting it. There is still ways to turn profits from people with IBS, sell specific antibiotics or therapies to deal with the bacteria problems!
