Let them eat Gluten and Ice Cream too!
For the past 10 days, I've been experimenting with a new
product to see if I could cheat with Pancakes, Pizza, and Ice Cream without
paying the consequences. These are the foods, including bread of course, which I
have missed the most.
I am happy to report that I've been able to indulge in some
favorite "cheat" meals, without any pain or cramping, without any D or C, and
without distention. What comes out (forgive the language) is a normal
BM.
Here are my cheat meals so far:
1) A plateful of pancakes with chocolate chips (NOT
gluten-free), with a couple of biscuits (oh how i love both of
those)
2) 2 Slices of Pizza (delicious) with 3 Zeppolis (for those of
you that don't know what zeppolis are they are fried dough the size of a large
kiwi covered in powdered sugar, I guess similar to the New Orleans Beignets, but
these are origined in Italy)
3) A large Chocolate Brownie Sundae, with vanilla ice cream,
hot fudge + caramel topping
4) Chicken pot pie (love it, but it's been a no-no
food)
5) A large triple scoop ice cream cone with Caramel Snickers
Swirl
Heretofore, even in remission, I certainly couldn't handle any
of these cheat meals, alone or in combination (even with slippery elm cocktail)
without suffering enough to be sitting on the toilet telling myself "never
again" (you know what I mean, lol).
But this time, after each "cheat" meal, I took 4 capsules and
had NO issues at all. Wow!
As some of you know, for the past month, I've been
supplementing with L-Threonine amino acid powder (you can see the thread:
https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=2376156&p=2 ) and have been getting perfectly formed BMs as in pre-UC.
But I have done experimentation with this particular
supplement apart and while NOT taking L-Threonine as well, with the same great
results. So, I know this is what is resulting in being able to cheat without
consequences.
And while I would not suggest anyone who is flaring to cheat,
even with this supplement, it is nice to know that for those not flaring, who
like me, still can't indulge in forbidden foods, that with this supplement it is
possible to cheat on an occassional basis with success. I certainly don't intend
to do this every week, but perhaps every couple of weeks or once a month as a
treat.
I bought this supplement online from its manufacturer,
astenzymes:
http://www.astenzymes.com/gluten-relief, the
product name is: Gluten Relief, and I used a 10% off coupon code GLUFLR
(which I found and seems not to have an expiry, you can try it too if you
like).
I believe the success of this Gluten Relief is due to its
DPP-IV proteolytic-enzyme complex ( SEB-Pro GR is a blend of five powerful
proteases that function in a wide pH range, enhancing protein digestion. DPP-IV
specifically works on the proline component of gliadin (found in gluten) and
casein proteins, and helps regulate the inflammatory response to gluten
peptides.) because I have tried digestive enzymes in the past without such
success.
I'm planning a "cheat" meal next week and will have my Gluten
Relief at the ready.
