OT - Fun thread

It's been a while since I posted one of these so I thought I resurrect a fun thread! Sometimes it helps us connect with each other more if we know more of each other. Plus it helps get our minds off of Uc for a moment.

So here is the fun thread topic:

What is your favorite hobby?

I will start - I am an avid reader! I love, love, love reading! Right now I am reading The Hunger Games Trilogy (which I am loving!) but usually I will read pretty much anything fictional. I tend to stick to the sci-fi, horror, or mystery categories. I used to do a lot of crafts such as needlepoint, crocheting or knitting but I had to let those go because of my hands. They're in such a bad shape from arthritis, trigger finger and carpal tunnel that I just can't do those things anymore But when I am not reading I am either playing video games on the computer (lately it's been the adventure hidden object games), on the Harley with my husband or putzing around in the yard.

I too love to read. I've already read the Hunger Games Trilogy. Liked the Harry Potter Books much more. I read those ones with the vampire and werewolf (can't think of the name, tells you how much I liked them) and they just didn't live up to the hype for me. I like mysteries alot. I also read the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy because a few friends kept talking about it. LOL The rest of my time is spent with my daughter outside at the playground or at the pool now that its summer or doing whatever. Oh and the darn computer.

EP, where do you go camping? I haven't been camping in ages! But I would love to go again one day. The last time we went was at Kneff Lake - have you heard of it?

Running!! And being a mommy of course-it's technically my "job" but I love it so much I can call it a hobby surely :) My girls are 2.5 and just over 2 months :)

I am easing back into running after my newest arrived. Did one 5k already and am working up to "tough mudder" in 4 months. Minor setbacks as of this flare, but I'm doing what I can!

And cooking and reading (historical fiction an non-fiction mostly). I haven't gotten to the Hunger Games yet but I think I'll enjoy them once I do.

Joanna, I love dancing too! lol I don't care if I look like a spaz or not, but just getting out on the dance floor is so energizing :)

Well Imagardener so you know I have a garden. It's not that big but it is crammed full of antique roses and modern antique roses by David Austin. They remind me of my grandmothers rose garden. I also grow edibles, collards, green beans, lemons, limes, oranges, blackberries, mulberries along with plants to attract butterflies including Giant Swallowtails, Gulf Fritillaries, Zebra Longwings, Orange Barred Sulfurs, Peacocks, GoldRims and of course Monarchs.

Once a year we take a long trip in our camper van and photograph in national parks. Last year it was Denali NP in Alaska (had to rent an RV there too far to drive) and this year it's Yellowstone and Grand Tetons in Wyoming and Zion and Bryce Canyons in Utah.
A couple years ago we visited Arches NP in Utah and it was so incredible. When my UC was horrible traveling in the van was heaven not having to worry about restrooms. Now it's still heaven but not as necessary.

I also love to read (had to quit reading Hunger Games however, too depressing but I liked Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, weird huh). I read an equal amount of non-fiction as fiction. Enjoy pre-history and early history, trying to see whether we've actually improved as a species over the time we've been here. No opinion yet, some early cultures were very civilized and had knowledge we have lost.

I love to travel to the National Parks and points of interest on the west coast and southwest. It gives me visuals for my favorite hobby of painting! I really love to paint! Painting landscapes sets me free! I always imagine myself wandering through the fields and trees in my paintings while sitting at home. It is very relaxing and always raises my spirits!

Notsosicklygirl, thats pretty cool you like web development. I was into web/graphic design years ago as a kid, forgot how to do alot of it, would've been great for the work resume!

My thing is Trance music, specifically Vocal Trance, not to be confused with David Guetta or anything like that, but a few years ago my first relationship went sour and I needed some new tunes. I found this DJ/artist called ATB, who produces amazing ambience/yoga style of music and upbeat dance/trance at the same time. Its the only genre of music I truly listen to now, I feel like it has healing powers or something. The fact that it has repetitive drum loops and beats with melodies and layering, makes it so nice. My favorite song right now is "Save Me" by Shogun. In 2010 I went to the Electric Zoo festival in NYC, and hope to go again soon, if my immune system permits! I just got accepted into SCAD for their grad program of Sound Design and hope to make a career out of music!

I love hiking, weight lifting, yoga and i'm so much of a chocoholic that I just got a job at Lake Champlain Chocolates for this summer! Oh boy.

I am absolutely still obsessed about the hunger games! I've seen the movie six times now and read the entire trilogy countless times (oh a dozen by now). I am chomping at the bit like much younger hg fans are, waiting to learn who will play the ever popular role of Finnick Odair. Adore Finnick!!!! I highly, highly recommend this book trilogy and I am not the target audience (mid 50s). But guess what? I've mostly seen adults at the theater, rarely a child and the youngest viewer was around 16. I have seen senior citizens at each viewing too - Collins sure created wonderful characters you find yourself rooting for, everyone who knows me I have it bad for this book, the trilogy, the movie, etc. I live in Cincinnati and Josh Hutcherson lives across the river from our city, so we in Cincy have claimed him as a local. He's thrown out the first pitch at Reds' games. What else, my husband says let's get a Blu-ray player since he knows I will buy the DVD. And well they've come down greatly in price.

Alright, I have more hobbies than that, lol - walking and playing with my golden lab. Yardwork and putzing way too much on the computer.

One craft I wouldn't mind learning someday would be to sew quilts (machine stitched) but not exactly old fashioned ones but ones that intentionally off center, that would be creative and eclectic (not that I've decorated my home like that, we have more an Arts & Craft, oak furniture look). If I could learn to make modern quilts, maybe they'd sell well to a younger demographic.

•Scuba Diving (last dive was in December 2011)

•Watching sport live and on TV (I'm off to watch Ireland v NZ All Blacks at Eden Park this saturday - that's rugby for the uninitiated)

•Fishing
•Lifting weights (I'm not currently lifting)
•Cooking and having friends over for dinner and board gaming
•Reading (Bryce Courtenay is my favourite author)
•Growing vegetables (nothing growing at the moment as we're renting an apartment)
•Going to the pub with mates (am not participating in this hobby at the moment

•spending time with my fiancé and our families
•Travelling/Backpacking (not much of that this year as we've just moved back to NZ from the UK but over 35 countries visited)
•Camping in summer near the beach in NZ

I would say I have 3 main passions:

1. I'm a great cook and I love to have diner parties and cook for others.

2: I love photography, especially portraits and scenes with poeple. I will always be an artsy one.

3. My love of cheesy (good also) music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. I can go very deep in the cheese or have a bit of moog or all the pop music played instrumental to Tiny Tim. My fave decade has to be the 70's because of those prolefic songwritters. And don't start on Abba they are my favorite and definatly not cheesy! Looking deeper at their b-sides is like cryptonite!

Sherry-50 shades of grey- my take is the first one is very steamy. Its basically about a dominant who falls in love with a woman that he wants as a submissive but she's not really up for all that entails. He slowly becomes capable of a bit more "normal" relationship with her while she realizes she likes some of the kinky stuff too. LOL
