How long can one hold off without any meds while flaring? I'm afraid to lose my job and insurance and I wonder how long I could survive without treatment until I'm employed and insured again.

how bad is your flare right now, andrina? are you still on the current treatments in your sig?
everyone has a different level of severity with this disease. i've noticed some people flare for a week and then are fine. my current flare has been 5 months already.

Oh no, I would advise getting some kind of treatment. Maybe your doc can give you samples from sales reps or get you into a study where the meds would be free. Worth asking.

Yes, I'm still on the treatment mentioned in my signature.

What state are you in? They may have a decent Medicaid system that could help you until you can help yourself. Otherwise, there are programs for helping the uninsured pay for meds.

There are PAP programs that may help you to get the meds for inexpensive. Check the resources thread to see if you can find one that will help you. I have to say, I used to be very dependent on Asacol. If I stopped it for even a day, I would notice flare symptoms but these days, I don't have so much benefit from Asacol. I ran out of rectals and oral mesalamine last week and I haven't been using them and I am fine. I have them on order at the pharmacy and I will pick them up in a few days and contiue with regular treatment. While flaring, I wouldn't at all recommend going off meds. Ask for samples and try to get into a PAP.

Not a good idea for most people. Diet is effective for me so I have been off all meds for 1.5 years.

The bad thing about
medicaid and medicare I don't qualify for those. I just came here to the States six months ago on a Green Card and the goverment would go after my sponsor. Is there a program which is not goverment owned? I'm in the state of Utah.

My contract gets renewed. So I don't have to worry for another year. I'm so relieved

My doctor will usually buffer me in between treatments with antibiotic. No idea how it helps my colitis, but often it has some effect. Just last week he put me on Levaquin to try and help until I can get another treatment. Flagyl or cipro though I think are more common - I no longer get much result from cipro and flagyl I developed an allergy to.
