Colonscopy experts -advise pls

Hi,

So I am having my 2nd ever colonoscopy on Monday.  The place just called and said my time isn't until 12:00 noon.  Wow, that is very late...I think I am going to starve.  For people who have had late colonscopoies...the prep day --did you eat a lite breakfast?  If so when and what did you eat.  Also the place told me not to take my morning dose of Colazal--opinions on that?  I can't wait until this darn thing is over.

I think I'd probably run the risk of eating a light breakfast on prep day, and might also push the "start time" for the prep back four hours or so. Yeah, it might mean you'll be up later, but it's not like anyone gets all that good of sleep the day before a c-scope anyway.

I took my meds the morning of prep, but not the morning of my scope. I took my meds on scope day during a late breakfast afterwards.

Thanks fruitgirl, yeah I'm thinking a light breakfast might be the thing here. What is the latest you would risk eating? Also what is the benefit of pushing back the start time...is it just starting the clean out later? Thanks for your help. I dread this.

To be honest, I don't really know. I'm just guessing! What you could do is try googling some and see if you turn up any instructions for c-scope preps that allow a light breakfast. That might give you something more science-based to go on.

I thought you should push the prep start-time back to give that breakfast a bit more time to work its way down to your colon before you start the prep. Because if it's still in your small intestine, I don't think the prep will clean it out. Does that make sense?

Honestly, my scope in October was NBD. I was healthy going into it, so figured my prep was going to be really grody compared to my first scope, when I was flaring so badly the prep didn't really make me poop any more than I already was. At any rate, the prep wasn't all that terrible (honestly!) and I was completely back to normal by the day after. I was a bit sleepy off and on the rest of the day of the scope, but that's it.

You shouldn't eat anything after you have done the prep. Just look forward to eating after your scope. It stinks but you want to have a good scope so you don't have to do it over again. That would really stink.

Thanks, but I mean the morning of the prep to have a light breakfast, def not day of the scope. Yeah, it would totally suck to have to do it over. I also have to pay for this mostly out of pocket -- I would def. rather take a vacation w/ this money. I was thinking of posting some pics of palm trees in the recovery area, so I can pretend that I enjoyed spending this money..lol.

Oh sorry I misunderstood. I think the morning of the prep should be ok....just something small though. I remember sipping a lot of chicken broth throughout the prep day. It's not much but it's better than jello! Good luck!

My one and only colonscopy was scheduled or 1:00. I don't think it was done till 2:00. I did not eat anything the day before. I just drank sprite or ginger ale. I was starving. I never knew at that time this forum existed. Otherwise I would have done the jello and broth. However, I would still not eat breakfast. Aside from the fact that they are such a pain and I don't want to do the yucky prep again, I just can't afford to do it twice.

On the day of the prep, I drink warm chicken broth and white cranberry juice.
I think I had a small amount of water the morning of the prep but nothing else. Funny how you block that out.

The instructions from the Surgi-Center where I go for the procedure are very explicit on what is allowed and they basically cross-examine you when you arrive.
I think I heard someone say that they "forgot" and ate breakfast. Right!

BTW: If you use LDN, it is recommended that you stop it for 5-7 nights before the procedure (because of the anesthesia used).

When I had mine three weeks ago I had a normal breakfast on prep day. No problems with that....and I eat a pretty good sized breakfast. I started drinking the prep mixture at 4pm.

I did not take my morning dose of asacol as it would have been a complete waste of an expensive drug. Everything just flows right through at that point.

My prep instructions specifically said to have a light breakfast the morning of the prep, then clear liquids after. I decided I like the afternoon scope, because I can drink fluids up until about four hours before. For me, it's the pits getting up in the morning and not being able to drink anything.
