I'm looking ahead to try to find a place for a second opinion for treatment and possible future surgery if necessary in the Boston area. I've only recently been diagnosed, although doc says I've had this for awhile.
How do you go about
finding a really good gastro guy when you don't trust your primary care for a referral? I see that Mass General has a center. Anyone know what their reputation is like or anyone have first hand knowledge?

How about
trying your local CCFA chapter?

BIDMC has an awesome GI Dept. & Colo-Rectal Surgery Dept.- I've been there 2x for surgery consults, 2nd opinions, etc. Mass. General GI Dept. is great too- but I think they are harder to get an appt. with than BIDMC. I know when I made the appt's, I called both to see who had easier availabilty- MGH didn't have anything until 3+ months out, whereas BIDMC was able to schedule me within a month, both for a surgery consult & a 2nd opinion with the Head of the GI Dept. Also, Lahey Clinic, which is in Burlington, is top-notch for colo-rectal surgery. I've had 2 surgery consults with them too, & would use that facility if I had to have surgery. Burlington is about
45 minutes west of Boston.

I'm from the Boston area. I went to MGH and had Dr. Begun, who was amazing!! I highly recommend him.
