Monday I seen the surgeon since being discharged from hospital. The ulcers are not healing in the large intestine; in fact, some have gotten worse; however, have not bled...thankfully.
I am scheduled for surgery on July 25; worst outcome a permanent colostomy bag; mid-outcome a temporary Illostomy; third and best the surgeon will be able to remove the bad and reconnect the good. Problem is, he won't know what he is dealing with until he actually gets in there and sees what its like.
He put me on zofran for the nausea; and refilled for the pain. Meanwhile, I'm still experiencing bouts of diarrhea on the low residue diet; and took myself back to clear liquids on Saturday.
Wow - what a time of it with this stuff!?!
So for now, I'm researching and preparing for the permanent bag; the other two options will be great should either be the outcome. At least I'll be prepared!

It's unfortunate things haven't improved for you...but having surgery, to me, would be better than the continued suffering.
I cannot give you any suggestions, but it's awesome you're doing the research and preparing. There's the very best support here and on the ostomies board...never a shortage of going it "alone".
Let us know how you're doing after the surgery.

I have a permanent bag....no problem at all! I was not a candidate for j-pouch....my health was deteriorating rapidly. But, I was ready. Anything better than suffering with the disease....I had poor quality of life.

remove the bad and recconect the good? Hmmm...I'm not the UC clairvoyant but usually UC will spread throughout the whole large instestine. My opinion is to remove it all. In any case, ask the surgeon about
this. Hey, maybe you colitis will remain only in the piece that you remove.

I see that meaning only removing part of the colon. canzing did mention permanent bag.

Hey Canzing.....just curious but when were you diagnosed. If it's just recently, maybe you want to try some different stuff. You haven't suffered enough yet.

Run from this surgeon if he suggests a resection! If you have UC, you need to have your entire colon removed and either get a permanent ileostomy, a jpouch. or a k-pouch. A colostomy should never be performed on a UC patient.

What are you talking about
lol.
It made perfect sense. If you think about
it, I basically said, in a nutshell, to not give up yet.
