Which Specific Probiotic Strain do you Have Success With

Hello,

What is the name of your probiotic blend, and what cultures are in it? Are there any specifically aid to your progress towards Remission?

For me I find L Acidophillus to be extremely beneficial.

I use GIPro SCDophilus which is basically L acidophilus. I asked about the strain but it was proprietary. I also use Culturelle/Lactobacillus GG.

The ones I use are in my signature. I wouldn't ever stick with just one strain.

I do double them when I'm flaring or have had any wonky symptoms.

VSL#3 DS....2 sachets a day (1800 billion)....vast imp[rovement in symptoms.

I use  BIO-K PLUS  with great success.  The strains are 50billion of L.acidophilus cl1285 plus L.casei.    I also use the Renew life Ultimate flora Critical Care it has a vairety of strains but 50billion per capsule. 

I usually double or triple my probiotic use during flares.

Thank you for the information. Quincy, I also get different strains from my homemade yogurt, and I agree you need more than 1 strain for treating UC.

sean88, are you also doing SCD? I use the SCDoph 10+ for my L. Acid. What probiotics do you get from the cabbage juice, and was that something that was easily tolerated for you? And what were your symptoms like when you introduced it? Currently, how are you doing on SCD?

Bio-K, is that the GAPS recommended probiotic?

Also, what are the strains in the VSL#3 DS?

Great question! I just started VSL #3 a few days ago...I don't see any improvement YET. I started a flare 3 months ago and am SLOWLY improving...I'm down to 5mg prednisone a day. I'm hoping the probiotics work too, so I'll be following this thread. The dose on the VSL #3 is confusing....I'm doing 4 pills a day, and hoping to go down to 2 when I'm in total remission. I believe it contains 18 strains including B. Infantis and S. Boulardii.

@mindoverbutter - Yes, I've been on SCD for ~1.5yr. I've only used the SCDoph 3 to date since the 10 seems to be less available. I also use it as a yogurt starter. The cabbage juice is supposed to provide L plantarum as well as other Lactobacillus but I'm thinking it might be causing significant gas so might cut that out. I've been in a flare for several months so had moderate bleeding and cramping. SCD put me in remission when I first started it. After current flare went back to intro diet several times with limited success. It still provides a level of control of symptoms and I've gotten used to it so I don't see any downside at this point.
