I'm going to be brave and quit a job in a really negative, albeit comfortable, environment. Even though I'm afraid of upsetting Colonel Colon. I don't want to feel trapped in this job one moment longer. And when I think about it, I've been flaring pretty much since December--doing much better now after using canasa--and who's to say I won't actually be doing the Colonel a favor by leaving? Maybe THIS job has been upsetting the Colonel all this time anyhow.....we shall see. Just thought I'd post this here, among people who understand what it's like to have to filter all decisions through your digestive tract.

Congratulations! I think my horrible job was a significant factor in losing my colon. I lost the job because of my illness and I couldn't be happier about it. The people I worked with were great but the industry was all about how to get people to spend money on the latest and greatest whatevers. I am almost at the point I can look for another job. It is scary and exciting at the same time.

OMG...you hit the nail right on the head when you said filter all decisions through your digestive tract !  Literally, I don't leave the house even for short outings unless I access the state of my colon.  And given how unpredictable my symptons can be even on the best days, its almost always a "crap" shoot.

After 7 years of dealing with this disease, I am having the "big" surgery in November.  No more colon, no more rectum, and no more UC.  Yes, there will be new and even some difficult days ahead, but I am willing to go forward in an attempt to get my life back.  Hopefully I won't have to filter my decisions through my bag as much as I did my colon.  And even though I am 60 yrs old, I really want to start a new chapter in my life regarding employment and not have UC making that decision for me too.

I didn't think my UC was related to my stress until, being in remission thanks to heavy duty meds, I went through a really stressful situation regarding my kids. BAM! Blood within 3 days.

I quickly put two and two together, and dealt with the situation as best I could while also restarting my yoga, and I was able to stop the bleeding.

I hope your Colonel is happy with your decision.

Good for you! I hate feeling trapped in a job, usually due to fear of something or other. It feels so liberating when you finally get out.

I'm trying for a reassignment through Reasonable Accommodations. It's not so friendly working in the department I'm in and the economy is making competition fierce!

I left my job because I finally had enough of my boss who was driving me nuts. The stress was unbelievable. Christmastime was the worst and both years following my diagnosis I flared around the holidays. This past holiday time I didn't. Coincidence? I think not. She actually tried to get me to come back a few months ago for only 3 days and not being a manager any more which meant less pay. I think not because I would still have to deal with her. However, my husband is taking a job closer to home but is taking a major pay cut. I hope I don't have to resort to going back to work for her because I do know she would take me back and she knows about my health situation and is very good about that or if my daughter is ill. Great lady...horrible to work for.
