Anyone take 5 Lialda a day?

   My doctor wants to increase my Lialda dose to 5 a day for 6 weeks, but my insurance company rejected that dosage.  Anyone take 5 a day or know any reason why this would not be safe?  I have been great on 4 a day for 3 years, but was having a little blood two weeks ago.  I started cort enemas and am MUCH better.  I am not sure 5 a day is necessary or even helping that much.  My docotr's office gave me some Liadla samples to try to offset the fact that my insurance will only allow me to get 4 Liadla per day.  I have the Lialda card in adition to my insurance so a month's supply of Lialda 4/day costs $10.

I typically stay in remission with 50mg 6MP and 4 Lialda per day.

max dosages are usually pretty conservative, and I would consider a short term small increase over the max if under direction of a physician and if we had discussed possible toxic effects to watch for and any recommended monitoring - such as bloodwork for kidney function. with all the information, i would make final decision - not the doctor.

Compared to some people's stories I have read on here, I am WELL controlled overall. I have never used mesalamine enemas. I am usually in complete remission with no UC symptoms. There have been three occassions over the last 4 years where I started having blood and mucus (about 4-5 times a day) and was able to put a stop to it with just cort enemas (no change to other meds). I fully expect that to work this time too, and was really caught off guard when he said to increase the Liadla to 5. He mentioned pred. and I said NO. My initial dx was 8 years ago and I did pred. and it was HORRIBLE....promised myself never again and thankfully have been well controlled overall. I have taken 5 a day for the last 9 days, but now that I know the insurance is not going to allow that doseage, I went back to 4 this morning. I am supposed to hear back from my doctor on Monday about what to do with the insurance rejection.
Years ago before I got settled on Lialda I took Dipentum....other than that, no other meds in my history.

i mean I don't see much difference between taking 5 lialda a day, and 4 Lialda and a rowasa enema like I do.......

yeah I don't think anyone does...never heard of that

When I am in a flare I take 4 a day.
And I use the Rowesa enemas one night, then the cort. enema the next until
I'm not bleeding etc., then I use just the Rowesa for a week or so until all is calmed down,
then I go to the Canasa suppos. for a few weeks longer.
Now I'm down to 2 Lialda a day with just a suppos. at night.
It's working so far at keeping it all calmed down.
I too hate Pred. and it was a nightmare getting off of it.
