CORAL SPRINGS, Fla., Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Digestive CARE(TM), a medical group of 52 gastroenterologists in Broward and Palm Beach County, today announced that they are the first gastroenterology group in South Florida to offer Fecal Transplant therapy to patients with Fulminant or Refractory Pseudomembraneous Colitis.

 

Found this very interesting, although I believe this is the same practice which my GI is in.

I asked him about LDN and he refused, but FT they will do... somehow I can't help but feel there is a profit motive in this: LDN $30 per month vs. FT how many thousands $$$?

"Fulminant or Refractory" would be the more severe cases, and not folks with mild (or semi-remission). I wonder if they will have unhappy patients who get told they are not sick enough, or if they will offer the procedure to anyone insisting.

The success stats they claim are for the combine UC and c-diff treatment. I wish they provided them separately, because UC patients should not be mislead into believing one (or sometimes two) treatments is going to have an 89% of 95% success rate - as their statistical presentation unfortunately implies.

I did not see information on donors from same household, or lab screening of donor stool. These details would be interesting.

DBwithUC, i remember when i was trying to get it done in Harrisburg, Pa, the doctors said you had to be in remission or close to it for the procedure to work. they had done it 3 times before and said my case (going 7x a day) was too severe and it wouldn't work. i ended up doing it at home (didn't work at all) but i'm glad i could do it for WAY cheaper than having them do it for me.

This is a great breakthrough. I hope my GI offers it. I'm going to ask next time I see him.

But the obscenity-censoring software on this forum is hilarious. It censors out things like the link to Market Watch in the first post here.

I spoke with someone recently who knows a parent whose kid had the FT done over a 6 months period, 283 FTs!

When she told me 283, I almost fell over...haha.

I don't know what the bill was that attached to the 283 FTs?

But the good news is the kid is in remission.

It is very interesting. My doctor up here mentioned how some patients in Maine found success with FT. And its great news to hear the south east is taking initiative to perform some types of alternative therapies! Now if only we could see or hear about some specific individualized results...

My daughter's doc (or her colleague) agreed to do an FT via colonoscopy; they are doing a study and including her. However he didn't seem to think it would work, which was a bit annoying.Now we are doing home FTs as followup. No progress yet.

Gad your daughter's doc agreed to do FT via colonoscopy.

I really hope it works for her.

So to be clear, has she had the FT colonoscopy yet?

Or is she only doing the home FTs first?

Does she have a back up plan if the Ft doesn't work?

I would recommend LDN, low dose naltrexone.
