Black soft stools

I've been alternating between Pentasa and Asacol for about a year and a half now and recently changed to Asacol again. It definitely helped stop the blood, but I also notice that my stools have been really blackish (or maybe even really dark dark dark brown) but anyway, it's really black and soft (smudgy?)....sorry I know it's gross but I'm wondering why it's so black all of a sudden like these last three days or so.....has anybody had something like this?

Someone also posted something about finding Asacol pills in their stools and when I recently checked mine I found 1 pill in there...does anyone know why it does that?

Black stool can be from the iron. How long ago did you stop? And are you sure it was a whole pill and not just the outer shell?

Stool is probably still black from the iron but if your still seeing it after a few more days I would mention it to your GI. It would probably be a good idea to also tell your GI about seeing the entire pill in your stool.
