Colazide (allergic reactions?)

Has anyone had an allergic reation to Balsalazide sodium? The inside of my mouth all swelled up a few days ago and nothing much had changed in my diet - had not eaten anything strange that i can think of. The only thing i did do was start a new batch of colazide pills. I had been taking them for around 2 months with no problems. My specialist said she hadn't had any other patients with such a delayed reaction to this drug before but that is not impossible. She didn't want to re-challenge unless i was in a controlled environment for obvious reasons 

I am now just on pentasa suppositories. fingers crossed no more problems. 

Colazide is marketed in the UK, right? I had an allergic reaction to U.S. Colazal (brandname of balsalazide) during Phase 2 of its clinical trials in 2003: after 10 weeks on it my eyelids began to puff up & itch. Also had some random dizziness. This happened to me twice; then the original formula got changed, apparently as a result of the U.S. drug trial findings. Since then I've been able to take the U.S. brandname Colazal daily with no side effects. You may be having problems with a secondary ingredient in the Colazide, which was likely why I couldn't tolerate Colazal indefinitely at first. If your doctor doesn't have info on Colazide side effects/problems, try to find its known side effects via I'net search & see if there are patient comments listed as well. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
