things are looking up

andrina, no i didn't eat meat for 5 years. as for the heads- i guess my main reason behind it is that i feel i should utilize the whole animal. it had to die to nourish me so i want to get as much bang for my buck as i can out of it.

but yes, definitely better than i was. i haven't vomitted since last saturday which is HUGE for me. my thrush is gone and i was able to go for a walk last night. my main symptoms right now are pain with BM's, bleeding, diarrhea, urgency, and still going 5-7x a day. i expect it'll take some time for me to be in remission- after all, my whole colon is inflamed.

I see carrots isn't that weird? Lol. Banana girl are you cooking all fruits/tomatoes? Or just eating without skin etc? Sorry for so many questions!! Hehe :) How long do you cook carrots?

chrissy, i sautee some and eat some raw. it depends what i'm having, but i'd say i do 30% cooked/70% raw. i just eat carrots raw.

andrina, i see what you mean. yeah, i was telling my mom that i'm gonna order a whole rabbit online and she got all depressed saying "how could you? we had rabbits!" all meat is the same to me so if i can eat it, i will.

well, i saw my GI today and it wasn't a great appointment. i told her that i've improved on paleo but she doesn't believe diet can reduce inflammation and she doesn't think 6mp will do anything long term. she wants to admit me right away to the hospital to start remicade again and get a picc line for TPN. she said i'd have the picc line until my bloodwork came back good and i gained weight. she's thinking about a month or so and i'd be in the hospital about 7 days she thinks. she said they'd keep me in the hospital to see how i reacted to remicade again and also premedicate with PREDNISONE!!!!! i am really bummed and sad about this. i was so excited to tell her that my symptoms have improved and she just dismisses everything. i don't know what to do. i'm not good at hiding my emotions so she could easily see that i was not happy. my mom, on the other hand, listens to every single doctor's order known to man and was all excited saying "we'll have our labor day party on monday and then i'll take the week off so i can be with you in the hospital. remicade would help so much and the picc line would be great." she also gave me a humira starter kit pack to see if i'd like that. i practiced the injections and watched the dvd. uhh i just feel like every time i get a procedure done or go in the hospital, i take 10 steps backward in my health. i wouldn't be able to exercise or follow paleo while i'm there and prednisone makes me retain water like no other.

They don't do TPN for a laugh, dude. There was somebody on the Crohn's forum recently who was 75lb for crying out loud, and TPN/tube-feeding obviously hadn't even been discussed in her case. Despite her literally being unable to absorb calories through eating.

If she doesn't have severe UC, then she must be severely underweight. Either merits intervention at this stage.

It is part diet part medications. But then again I don't know much yet I am still a noob. But make sure you do what you feel is right for you. I personally feel like the diets help but I believe that is also because they all make you avoid processed foods,etc but I still think meds are helpful as well. Did the doc say you are too underweight?

nicecup, somedude, and chrissy. my UC is active inflammation but no ulcers. my BM's are 5-7 a day but today i went 4. i guess i feel like last year when i was going 30x a day and in the hospital, i wasn't on TPN then- i was on no food/liquids/ice- just iv fluids. but i am very underweight at 84 lbs and 5'4" and i know that. that's the main reason my doctor wants to do it. she said i could still eat and it would supplement my diet. i just have noticed such drastic improvements so far with this diet change and i am still taking all my medications- i haven't stopped anything so i wouldn't call this the "all natural" route by any means. i have another appointment in two weeks and i have decided that if i can't gain any weight by then, i will do the TPN and start humira. that at least gives me time to up my calories and do more weight training.

nicecup, i have been seeing gastros and on meds since jan 2011 so i'm definitely medically intervened already. but i'm not delusional in thinking that diet will be my savior. i've just been able to do things this past week that i haven't done in 5 months. i think that means the diet is definitely helping and i wanna give it time to work.

Joanna, that's why I never told my GI that I'm on a diet because I knew doctors react like that. I'm sorry you got frustrated about this. I watched this movie "Food matters" and it's stated that doctors are only educated in medicine, rarely nutrition.

There is nothing wrong with taking medicine to help healing though. Have you been on Remicade before? I was and I was told that once you're off of it your body creates antibodies and it will never work anymore :/
