Does uc improve when fighting something else?

Just curious if anyone else notices this. I had the sweats, sensitivity to heat, for a few days but my uc seemed better. Now the sweats are gone I thing, but last night I was up a lot for the bathroom again. A couple of years ago something similar. I got a stomach bug that was going around, it gave weird cramping, like labor contractions, but duting that time I had the moat regular looking poos ever. I am thinking when my immune system has to go work somewhere else, it leaves my colon alone. Of course imuran and Remicade didn't seem to work.

Interesting: i remember reading someone else posting about a similar reaction to infections/injury and UC.
As for me; an infection or virus makes me flare up really badly and i get severe bleeding and terrible stomach cramps. Infact, it is one of the ways i know a caught a virus/cold/flu. It usually first shows up as a deterioration of my uc then it gets worse until the flu wears off.

I was dx'ed with Lyme's disease some years ago during a UC flare. I was loaded up on antibiotics for months to knock it out. Intrestingly enough, I stopped flaring. Probably because of the antibiotic I was on. As soon as I stopped the antibiotics and I was Lyme's free, my UC flared again. eyes So was is the antibiotic or my immune system fighting the Lyme's that made me stop flaring?Who knows. I just knew I couldn't stay on the Doxy forever....it's a really strong antibiotic.

I rarely get sick, so I don't notice this often, but of course it was one bad night so hopefully the next will be better.

Not really...sometimes everything happens at the same time. eons ago I would get my period, have a cold, flare and be dizzy from BPPV. Pure hell....nothing gave.

I've been seriously ill and not gotten a flare during that time, other times it's sort of built up to a flare...meaning both happening at the same time pushing the flare over the edge.

I think it may depend on how overloaded the body is.

That concept, however, rings true for the whipworm treatment for UC and the bee/wasp sting treatment for RA.

I was the one that mentioned UC dampenng down when I was fighting injuries. Happened to me during a back injury that disn't require surgery but had me disabled for two weeks, and for a knee surgery during a month of recovery. And this was not due to pain meds- the dampening continued even after I atopped taking pain meds for the injuries. I also have had some severe colds result in damoening of the Uc until the cold went away, and the UC bounced back. That was some years back. More recently, colds have not damlened the UC, so the correlation was not permanent. It's all rather odd.

I really think I see a connection, but I don,t get sick too much. Actually before all this I thought I had some super immune system cause I never had anything, strep ear infections flu. Guess it got bored and decided to Go after my colon.

Yep, mine's always better when I'm fighting something else like a cold or other infection.

Does the pill affect it at all. Just wondering because my onset was 4 months after giving birth so I figured hormones head omething to do with it.

allswell: you mean you, too, got UC for the first time after giving birth?

Sheesh: what is it with giving birth huh? it totally screwed me up thats for sure: if you saw me before giving birth you'd be like waaat..I was super healthy, exercised daily, ate healthy...etc. Now im a skinny wreck.

I also don't go to the bathroom as much when sick and feverish. I think it has more to do with my lack in eating much or at all when I'm sick. If I'm on antibiotics it also has an effect on me (only certain kinds make me feel better). In fact on occasion I've asked the doc to prescribe some of those antibiotics I've had while sick when I'm not sick but my colitis is getting rough (Levaquin seems to help, Flagyl for other people).

Somewhat. Back when I was doing martial arts regularly (FMA), my UC was the last thing on my mind when we were pounding the dog snot out of each other. A rattan stick is a great teacher.
