Hi all,

I've been wearing depends for a while and I think due to the moisture and lack of ventilation I developed a very large outter hemmie. It's soooo sore trying to sit or find a good place to lay down.

I've been using Perpetration H wipes and ointment and warm baths. Is there anything else I can do?
I decided to chance using regular undies today as this is really killing me!

You can ask your GI for a prescription ointment. It has some numbing stuff in it that I find very helpfull when my hemmies are acting up. Witch hazel wipes are also very soothing.

Dont go preparation H route go doctors prescription route. They are usually stronger meds and at least like sherbear said it can numb the pain.

I would suggest bathing your bum 2-3 times a day and I would avoid wiping. Might sound a bit discusting but i would squat in the shower, take the shower hand and with a very low pressure clean the bum french bidet style!

It helped a lot mines or at least the itching! After you can put the ointment and try to sleep on your side to let those bums cheeks breathe!

Sit on an ice pack. None of the creams ever work very well for me but ice soothes the pain and helps to shrink it.
Good luck, I'm aching in that area these days, too.

     Tell the surgeon!  Maybe he can snip that off at time of your operation???  I know I had several internal hemmies when I went in for my operation.  I can still get them because he left the anus opened, but all I have are those skin tags, which, by the way, have not bothered me lately yeah .....yaaaaa!

     OH....do you have to take a prep the day before your operation or just drink clear liquids?  Dr. Fry just told me to drink clear liquids 24 hrs before.  Just for good measure, I stuck to the clear liquids for 48 hrs...that really shocked me!

I totally could not agree more with sherbear and tournevice. The doctor's ointment/suppositories have helped me so much. It took some time for mine to heal even with the doctor's suppositories but it really starts to heal if you continue and warm sits in the baths help a lot.

For me, I go straight to the shower after every BM just to wash off with warm water regardless of whether my hemmies have healed or not. This has helped tremendously and now don't even feel pain or anything at all. I've heard that Epsom salt helps, too, although I've never tried it.

Yup..I had Bill and planning on telling the surgeon. I wonder why he doesn't sew up the anal? I was hoping to avoid any more hemmies and fissures! I'll be doing the Merolax/Coconut water prep used for colonoscopies. Funny how you schedule surgery then you're stools come back!

Unfortunately I had some Analpram at home (3 hrs away) but didn't bring it with me. I'm not sure if I could use as this as I have surgery schedule fro Sept 4th. I'll definitely be getting some Epson salts! I just hope I can survive the prep and the surgery. I expect that I'll be sleeping mostly on the back due to the incisions but I can't with this hemmie! :(
