rice milk

Anyone here use rice milk to replace dairy?

I think dairy is a problem for me after a lot of trying other things.

I haven't tried rice milk before and I am wanting to know if it is generally okay for people with UC, or if there are undesireable ingrediants in it-

I use it also. I'd just check labels, some brands may contain things that could irritate some of us.

I personally don't like rice milk, as I find it too "thin" or watery, but I love my almond milk.

The big red flag to look out for is carrageen, as an additive.

Same here--much prefer almond milk

will carageenan be labeled exactly like that on products? so for example, rice milk ingredients would read: rice 7%, carageenan 1%, water 92%

or?

I have no idea how to spot the stuff...thx

I used to drink Rice Milk a lot but I don't anymore because I like the Vanilla flavored one and it contains too much sugars. I try and just drink water and hot tea most of the day.

And yes, stay away from carageenan. I swear that brought out my last flare.

I'm pretty sure it always says carageenan. The only thing I've seen differently is on a tube of Tom's toothpaste that also included the scientific name of the plant that's used to make it. But it said "carageenan (Scientific name)."

It seriously annoys me how much stuff it's in -- I had a heck of a time finding regular (ie, not low-fat) buttermilk and heavy cream that doesn't contain it. I mean, there's NO REASON for it to be in that stuff. I get why food manufacturers think it needs to be in the low-fat versions, to provide some "heft." But not in full-fat versions!

Yes, carageenan is listed in the ingredients label. Silk unsweetened almond milk doesn't have carageenan although most almond milks do. I don't think it's in rice milk much.
