I had a colonoscopy done on Sep. 5th and I see my GI on the 14th to hear the results. I've had 2 done by him in the past and he usually tells me at the end if it's good or bad. This time, though, he only told me during the procedure that he may think of having me discontinue the enemas. He doesn't know yet, but I've been having a really hard time retaining them in my system (which I'll discuss with him this coming Friday). He also asked if he could look into my small intestines as well (which he never did in the past!).

I guess I'm just a bit anxious about my results, but I'm wondering why he asked to look into my small intestines....at the very end, he said that he'd review my stuff and think of another method of treatment. He's mentioned Remicade in the past, but when I asked him about that, he didn't really respond.

I'm freaking out thinking maybe I have Chron's now??

Without actually being there and seeing your colonoscopy, it's hard to conclusively say what is on the doctor's mind. I can never tell what my doc is thinking because he always has a straight/professional face regardless if the news is good or bad. If he was to look into the small intestines it could possibly mean Crohns. Perhaps he wants you to discontinue the enemas because your colon is looking 100% better.

Honestly though, the best advice I can give for the moment is to try your best to get your mind off your UC until this Friday. Obviously prepare a comprehensive list of questions etc. but other than that, just relax. Thinking about what possibly is the result won't help, but waiting to find out what the result is, will.

I've started meditation. I think it's helping me with accepting the bad things in my life (and possible bad things).

Thank you for your reply, Maxmilian :) Made me feel a lot lot better! I know it's such a silly thing. It seems the hospital called while I was out today but didn't leave a message. And yes, I've heard that meditation is great for people like us. A friend of mine was telling me that even yoga would help.

I agree with MaxMilian,

Stay busy, relax, maybe some exercise, massage or meditation to get you through the week.

And definetly prepare a list of questions for the doctor, this way when you do see him, you are prepared and won't leave wishing you asked something else!

My GI has always gone into the end of the small intestine for all of my scopes. Perhaps your GI does want to rule out Crohn's but maybe he or the facility has just changed their policy regarding colonoscopies to include the terminal ileum. I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. Hope you get good news!

Thank you for all the support, guys - really appreciate it. Well, my GI called late tonight and it turns out that I have a polyp (cancerous?) right at the rectum and he let me know that my colonoscopy was not good and that the inflammation has spread :( He said that he hasn't got the entire test results back yet, but that he feels that perhaps surgery may be a better option at the moment but that he'll talk with me and my mother about all this together with the test results on Saturday.

He told me that he may refer me to a hospital that is known for the j-pouch surgery for a second opinion.

What do people do after getting surgery? Do they not need check-ups anymore? Do they continue to be seen by the surgeon who did the surgery for check-ups? Or do they go back to the GI that referred them after the surgery? How does it work?

Penny I'm a bit confused about why your doctor would want to skip all the other scales of medication first.

Usually you start with the 5ASA then you can do pred and so on. But I was only on the 5ASA all my uc life and if the inflammation was bad I would expect to try other medication before surgery.

On the other side of things Im not your doctor and didn't see your results.

Wait until friday and see what he says but I would always have a second opinion form someone else before having surgery.

Just wanted to drop a line to thank you for the feedback.

@tournevice: I think my GI is just thinking about the future and how it may be a better option for me to just get surgery instead of going through all the other meds which may affect my pregnancy, etc. Just waiting till this Saturday to discuss matters with him.
