Oh also they gave me latulose which is a laxative, and just for some reason I don't think it's a good idea, but they were pretty sure I was full of it. I just almost want a second opinion before doing that to myself tonight. I did take the metronidazol/flagyl they gave me for "abdominal discomfort" anyone know anything about
that stuff?

Yeah, I would definitely avoid the laxative until you ask your GI about
that. They gave me flagyl when I was first diagnosed just in case there were any infections going on I guess. It's a really hardcore antibiotic and I really hate it. It makes everything have a nasty metallic taste to it after you're on it for a few days, even water. It tastes horrible. I would take it with a bite of applesauce or yogurt so I didn't have to taste it.

She told me only to take the flagyl as needed, is that strange? also gave me cipro to take for 10 days, and some zofran as needed for nausea. I am thinking these doctors were just as confused as I am and just prescribed me a bunch of junk

Um, yeah, that's strange. Really strange. It's an antibiotic. The cipro is an antibiotic as well... I don't know why they gave you both at the same time. Maybe the zofran would help; never taken it. Jeez, I hate dealing with crappy doctors - definitely been there, done that!

I agree, giving a patient these strong antibiotics without any real direction is just lazy on the DRs' part.
Being full of crap is something I deal with, too. It seems impossible to believe, but I think it's pretty common that folks with inflamed colons have motility problems. You can try miralax or just plain prune juice if you feel like you are backed up. A gentle laxative like lactolose shouldn't harm you, although it might give you bad cramps.
I don't like the way you have been treated by this hospital, but your posts make me think that you have no other options because of insurance/cost/other.

How are you doing today? Did you get a chance to check in with your GI?

I'm feeling better, still feeling run down and tired but it could be from my body just being exhausted after fighting off all this junk. I was able to speak to someone and they wanted me to take the combination of antibiotics, and said to take the lactulose "as needed" well I don't feel like I need it but I tried it anyways and it snuck up on me about
3 hours after taking it, a lot slower than any other laxative.. It's a greasy texture too, no one warned me it was basically mineral oil! Lol, but my GI moved my appointment up to the 17th which is a little better than the 21st...and the head of the GI clinic told me not to stress about
the lymphoma comment.. But I would hope MD's wouldn't throw the C word around like that unless they were actually concerned

Um yeah!!!! Wow...I can't believe they threw that out there. Anyway, glad you got to talk to someone. Feeling run down and exhausted is totally normal with a flare. Try to get as much rest as you can and stay hydrated. Keep us updated.

Apparently the fish oil industry is raping fisheries to produce this oil. Its far more efficient to just eat wild, sustainably caught fish a few times a week than have an industry that processes oil out of fish... Then of course you are getting all the benefits of fish- protien and fat, and using far less resources.

Lauren, have you tried Canasa suppositories? Most of the inflammation of the colon starts at the rectum and thats exactly where Canasa works
Also, try taking Vitamin D + Calcium, CoQ10, blueberries.
DONT eat gluten or diary (pizzas or milk) or nuts
Im not a doctor but this is what I have learned from having this disease for 3 years

Also, when I take antibiotics (Cipro or Keflex) i get massive bloody D, stay away!
Rx antibiotics are known to cause massive bloody D in UC patients, IDK why your GI would prescribe you these

Welly GI didn't prescribe them, the ER doctor did, but they know my history. But GI office told me to go ahead and take them on account of my white blood cell count. I've been wanting a good vitamin regimen to get on, is that a good one to do daily? I've been reading on boswelia, do y'all know anything about
this stuff? Apparently it can help with remission

I like Deva vegan multivitamins. Never tried boswelia. I do think it's odd they are giving you both antibiotics at once. Antibiotics make a lot of UCers flare (never happened to me though).

Well I actually have been blood free all day today, it was so much more relaxing knowing its stopping. What does that vegan multivitamin help?

You never know with antibiotics, I do fine on one kind and then I'm hurting if I take another. Maybe it's a stronger one that bugs me?
A multivitamin is a good idea since we can get depleted of nutrients if we're having lots of D or just not absorbing. It's not likely to improve any of your symptoms, though.
I was actually in the middle of my worst flare, D all day long, blood, urgency (had an accident AT a doctor's appointment) when I had some blood work done and my doc said he was shocked that someone as sick as me had bloodwork that looked so healthy. Guess I was absorbing the things I needed even though they were passing through in record time.
Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better!

Yeah, I was extremely sick and all my bloodwork was still normal. You probably don't need a vitamin, it is just kind of a "back-up" I guess. Glad your bleeding's going down! That is a good sign! The asacol takes time to work.
