Vicious cold in the last week now bms and urgencies appearing

Got a very storng cold since last friday and had to blast myself with meds.

Took 8 paracetamol extra strong with codeine a day, syrup, nasal spray on top on my uc meds.

Decided to start psyllium husk capsules to help bulk my stools.

So the last 2-3 days i had 3-4 bms a day compared to one or two.

Had twice this week urgency while out which is unheard of in the last months. Now is my immune system playing up with me and affecting my uc or is it the psyllium husk doing me no favor! I read the seed powder is better and the husk is quite rough so I stopped the husk and unfortunatly the only place I can find psyllium seed powder is at food for horses places!

I usually do my enemas twice a week but guess I will have to do more this week.

Anyone had bad experience with paracetamol mixed with codeine or caffeine?

Yes I remember last friday morning when my husband woke up and said: " I feel a bit rough I think I might get my coworkers cold"

And of course I was fine.... until late afternoon when it went a full blown cold for me and of course for my husband nothing happened! Just to show you we really do have an immune system disease.

What your rheumatologist said was interesting and at least I can ajust my medication when I see minor signs before it gets nasty. And just to show you uc is never far away!

From what I remember you going through for the past while, it could be that you've been having very mild symptoms but not noting them as more serious or to up the rectal meds...which I suggested. Not reprimanding you, must saying that sometimes we're doing Ok with some symptoms and then something like a cold takes us to the next level of more serious symptoms.

So, yes...do the rectal meds nightly. it's not the fibre or the cold meds or anything you did.

I can't take codeine, but it can slow down your digestive tract a tad.

Well Quincy I have had much stress lately as well, nothing like I experienced before.
And it's true I should never take my UC for granted. I didn't thought doing the enemas nightly was necessary since I went only one or twice a day without mucous or blood or urgency.

I might be one of those as well that will need the enemas weekly just as prevention. You learn all the time about your body and with the amount of high stress now, loneliness and violent neighbors I should have had top up everything med wise as prevention.

The good thing is I still don't have any blood of mucous or diarrhea so im still in the prevention zone.

But you can reprehend me I don't mind ahah you have 23 years of experience with the enemas and I have one so surely I can learn from your experience and what my body is telling.

If a cold med has a mucus thinner in it, that Could definitely weaken the mucus barrier in the colon and lead to flaring. The sugars and sugar substitutes in cold syrupsmwould also do me in. In addition to the other suggestions, I would increase the doseof probiotics that you have found helpful in the past.

I can totally understand the excessive stressors you're feeling. It would be very difficult for me.

You should get back on the enemas nightly for at least 2 or 3 weeks. Taper all over again....then STAY at twice a week. Pick the days. Once a week isn't enough. been there...and fruitgirl's suggestion as per info suggests twice a week and I stay there.

We all take the symptoms as better than what's worse before....as you get experienced with symptoms and meds, it changes. You're in a tough place right now. You should start to feel better soon...

I'm much more intolerant of cold symptoms. I hope that doesn't last too long for you...ugh!

Quincy: Yes domestic violence neighbours on top of us. THe very drunk style that fights every week end all night long and throw things out of the windows and on the floor. And the girl yell like a pig that's been strangled (in lithuanian language).
It's been going on for 9 months ow and when I dared last month to ask them to keep it quiet well both of them took it on me and threaten me. We called the landlord and she lost it on him as well. So my husband and I had to be picked up by his parents for protection and stay at their home for god knows how long.

We finally found a new place in a nice area. Being in a bad area in London isn't like being in a bad area in Canada... We couldn't move for so long because I have been waiting 7 months for my spouse visa to allow me to work. It usually take 4-6 weeks but the government screw it by cutting effectives and dispatching agents a bit everywhere. Everyone is in a limbo waiting for their visa and even some students couldn't start university because they are still waiting for their visa since january.

Bare in mind all that time legally i can't even volunteer and integrate. They hold all my papers and passport and can't visit my dad and friends.

As for the kitty cat well she invited herself in march to our house and she stayed. Don't blame her as she has her own beanbag and some TLC all the time. She's my therapy and we have to get rid of her as most flats in the UK don't accept animals.

So I haven't work in a year (I worked all my life), haven't made friends, haven't volunteer in my community and on top of us every night we don't know what's going to happen. It's very far from my canadian life! But what don't we do for love eh?

Yes its unusual to wait that long for a visa and everyone is in the same boat. It's putting a lot of pressure financially on my husband hence why we waited long to move as rents here are crazier than toronto and vancouver. 2 bedroom flat in a nice area (not a rich one) is around 1700 canadians. But we came to that rock bottom point where we had to move and i'll have to be creative with cheaper meals!

So I can't wait to work and integrate and what I lost most is my independance.

We still haven't moved yet it's in 2 weeks and we can surely bring the cat in secret as most landlord dont ever visit (you pay via your bank or letting agent). However the cat is very talkative and loud and we believe she's has many houses where she gets fed constantly. She spends most of her time here cause we give her chicken and tuna and we have a garden however I believe she has a house already.

It's a tricky situation cause tenants don't have as much rights here than Canada hence the neighbours problem. Landlord can't even do something to put them out. Police don't do anything either. The only way is to write a minimum of 6 months records of fights and events and then go to the city council and wait maybe a year or two before they treat your case. In that time because your neighbours have received the warning letter you can be sure to have a hell of a time.

So talking about it makes me think that actually uc wise it's a miracle I haven't blown out.

And my dad doesn't even know how to open a computer ahaha

If we get the visa soon at least we could go down for christmas and my husband could experience a proper full storm christmas. He thinks christmas should be like the National Lampoons with ugly sweaters and so on. Montreal won't disappoint him for sure snow wise. Now I must go and mentally prepare him to the cold....xxx
