Old Mike-
So many young children are suffering with UC type issues that it seems to me that they cannot all be hereditary problems.
In my opinion, there are so many chemicals, hormones, etc. used in the making and growing of food that problems with digestion may start when the first foods are consumed by babies.
Also, our lifestyles have changed drastically in the past 50 or 60 years. My family grew a lot of our food in our garden, preserving much of it for later use. We rarely ate prepared or canned foods from the supermarket and I can't remember ordering food from fast food chains.
Agribusiness, in my opinion. is very "suspect" with genetically modified crops which are fed to animals that are treated with hormones and God knows what else to increase production.
The runoff water from farming, fertilizing lawns and treating roads in winter is probably finding its way into our drinking water sources.
Disposal of prescribed drugs is another issue.
I wonder how much we are "genetically modified" as a result of all this pollution.
I think is a great suggestion to how babies and children are harbored with this disease. Years ago, this disease and auto-immune business was was not that evident, and although research on genetics is always hitting the fan with doctors, I really take into account our environment: stress, food, chemicals, etc.
Compile a list of all of the chemicals in your house; from cosmetics to under the sink cleaners. Even when our food is guaranteed gluten free or grown without pesticides, cross pollination from farming fields can still occur. =/
BeatUC, I have to agree with ImCured, parasites and candida/yeast is a big culprit and fairly overlooked in this disease. I can tell my supplements and control diet has really helped me throughout the summer. Maybe not for everyone, but just to give you an inside look: I have cravings, bad cravings for sweets and grains, and I feel like my colitis is under control except when I over-consume these foods. Again, not saying this is a culprit, but man it adds to the idea of how colitis can get out of control, for me anyway. What kind of diet regimen were you on again?
ImCured, sounds like a good protocol, and I understand the concept on parasites and how they can manifest in different ways. Can I ask when you were diagnosed? How in-control are you of your symptoms now? 1-2 bowels a day? formed? no blood? etc Thanks again for sharing. :)
One thing I don't do very often on this forum is push meds, only because in my personal situation, I felt maybe there was something else I could find to manage my symptoms (diet/supplements). But I have to say, prednisone is a Godsend for getting
my inflammation and bowels in check. Without it, I'm sure if I made dietary changes early on, I still would have had a looooong way to go. That's the only thing about
natural healing thats tricky -is that it takes longer.
