Quick background: 22 year old male diagnosed with pancolitis January 2012. it took me 6 months to enter remission, remission defined as no blood, once/twice a day, firm poop. Before that? 10-15 times a day, blood, mucus, urgency, you name it I had it.
Current medications: lialda 3 pills a day, one VSL#3 pill and one Pearl IC probiotic.
Issue: Lately, my poop has become too hard. I know, it was the one thing i wished for while I was flaring...hard poop. Now it comes out in these pellets that are dry and abrasive. I drink plenty of water and I haven't changed my diet in over half a year! Has this happened to any of you?

Stool Softener, try it
I think you can get something OTC.

Have you tried taking Metamucil or psyllium husk powder?
Supposed to help with both diarrhea and constipation.
You have to start slowly, with a low dose, as it can cause gas until your system gets used to it.

FYI - Colace is a gentle stool softener. If you decide to try it, make sure you buy the name brand and not generic, generic has additives such as senna (an irritant to the colon walls). I prefer 50 mg (pediatric dose) and that way I can space out two doses per day, 12 hours apart.

Any of the stool softeners....plus rectal meds. Reason...constipation is a symptom of an early flare, limited lower in the rectum or just very mild rectal inflammation.
