Quincy: I was taking 1 zymactive pill, 3 times per day. I think that was the recommended dosage.
soystud: I had bad smelling flatulance two years ago at initial onset of my UC and for the most part, since basically being controlled through VSL and Asacol, there has not been any bad smells, no matter what I eat, including these two bad episodes. I actually try experimenting quite a bit. I guess I am a bit of a scientist. There have been several times where I ate something and seemed to be worse afterward and then turned around and ate the very same thing like the next day and wound up having a better day than usual. Go figure. Unless I truly have a really bad experience I don't condemn any food after just one bad experience.
bananagirl: I basically have zero UC symptoms other than frequency and too much gas and I kept reading that UC patients don't have enough enzymes to digest certain foods, causing gas and this was one reason I tried this approach. The second reason was that I was strongly believing that my UC is caused by the epstein barr virus in my colon, causing the inflammation process. I read that these particular protease enzymes were good at helping to fight that epstein barr virus. I never had my enzymes tested and this treatment pretty much backfired, making me worse. Fortunately I have since returned to my normal after discontinuing them.
ActiveUCer: That is an excellent question. Ice cream sandwhiches were the exact same. I have eaten many different kinds of pizzas with no problem. Most of the time I eat just cheese. I'm not into veggies on pizza much and even though the meats are good they give me a heart attack just looking at them so I usually stick with just cheese. This particular pizza happened to be a new one for me - Pizza Hut thin crust pizza. It did have ham on it. I have never had this particular version before since having my UC. Even though it is possible that the new version did something to me this thin crust cheese pizza has less fat, less cheese, etc than the Pizza Hut pan pizza I just had about
a week earlier with no problems, other than weight gain. I'm really leaning toward my bad experience with the digestive enzymes temporarily made my UC worse, causing me to be more sensitive this particular time around.
