Hello, I was newly diagnosed last year with UC and was put into remission with prednisone and Lialda as maintenance for about 6 months, then had a major flare last Christmas and was back on prednisone, but this time we used Imuran as the maintenance drug.
I've been on 100 mg of Imuran since February of this year, and have not had any of what I'd call major flares, you know, lots of blood, going 10 to 15 times a day, major urgency, total liquid BM's, major stomach cramps, you know that kind of stuff.
But what I do get is a daily low grade nausea in my stomach, BM's that are not total liquid but more like mush or oatmeal, go somewhere between 4 and 8 times a day not with great urgency but sometimes a little urgency, and sometimes just a little bit of blood in the stool and on the TP.
Has anyone had similar results using Imuran (Azathiropine) and when they increased their dose, in my case I would be going to 150 mg next, saw their symptoms get noticeably better?
I know this is a question to ask my GI, but I wanted to hear from actual UC'ers using Imuran what their results of increasing their dose was, much better, not much better but now a greater cancer risk, symptoms got worse.
I feel my dose may be to low, considering I'm 6'-2" and 250 pounds. Like I say I'm certainly better off on 100 mg of Imuran than I was before Imuran, just wondering if I could be doing better with a higher dose.
Thanks to all replies.
