Lower right sided pain with bm?

I'm in remission from the combo of Remicade/6mp/Colazal and I have been feeling pretty good. But one thing has been bothering me, every time I have a solid bm, I get a sharp pinchy pain about 4 fingers up from my hip on the lower right side. It's been going on for a while but it happens at random - mainly because my bm's aren't always solid. I also have Diverticular disease and IBS - I thought I had a Diverticular pocket on my right but my GI told me that it is in my transverse closer to my ascending (I also have a pocket on my left). I asked him why I have this pain, but he said he wasn't sure that if it gets worse to tell him.

Two times I had to go to the ER (one of those visits resulted in hospitalization) because the pain was too intense and constant.

Has anyone ever had something similar?

I have right side pain when I need to move my bowels. It's been an issue for a few years now, and my GI and I have not figured out what it is. I think it's probably just a spastic colon. I think chronic inflammation has messed with my motility. It gets better if I keep my bowels moving, so now I use a little bit of miralax every other day, and I'm taking psyllium to see if that will help, too.

Have you gotten a scope done to check? Since it's just left sided a scope till the left flexure should be enough.

about 65% of time when I am either about to move my bowels or have already moved my bowels, I will have a mild sporadic tenderness ache on my lower left abdominal side. Sometimes, it will occassionally be on the right. Other times I will have no issues. Other times, the aches will be there regardless of when I have my BM.

I am not sure what exactly is going on because my most recent scope in August showed my large intestines were completely free. My small intestines had a few mild ulcers on the terminal ileum though so that could be the cause for the lower right sided tenderness but my G.I has not idea why my left side also aches.

He believes my pains are IBS related but has said since they aren't severe, to just put up with them. I am just hoping there's nothing funny going on in my small intestines that the scope was unable to see but if there was, I've been taking Pentasa tablets for 2 months now, and mesalazine healed my proctitis and cecum inflammation previously, so the Pentasa should be clearing up anything that is in my small intestines but the pains still persist.

Annoying.

Andrina, the pain is on my right, not my left. And yes, I had a colonoscopy about 1 1/2 years ago - I had the pain then too, but the doc didn't mention anything over there. I'm due for my 2 year in April '13.

So do you guys suppose it's probably my IBS than?

I do have this pain once in a while from last two years. I think this pain would have started when my UC went from left sided to Pan-colitis. I did not co-relate it to solid BMs, but I will keep this in mind, and see if the pain coincides with solid BMs.

Any new foods/drinks over the past while? supplements, etc?

Are you ovulating at this point? If I remember correctly, you have ovarian cysts...could be that in part.

When you lay down and press there, sort of like bouncing press....do you hear any gurglies/gas? Do you have a stethoscope? or ask your husband to lend an ear to that area and see if that's an area with the most weird noises...

Have you cut back on the Bentyl?

Maybe see if you can up your c-scope to January...
In the meantime, I'd suggest you ask your doc for an ultrasound of that area.

I feel your pain Sherry....I hope it's just IBS/gas.

I was pretty sure I had a stricture that was causing these pain. I can feel solid stool getting "stuck" in the ascending colon, and the pain I feel is right where the ascending colon turns into the transverse. My scope showed my colon to be in excellent shape, no inflammation anywhere, and no stricture. So I've got to go with what my GI's been saying for the last few years - it's "IBS" (oh, how I hate that term.) I'll just continue saying it's a motility issue and I'm trying to figure out how to manage it.

No, no new foods or supplements. It could be ovulation, I guess? I don't have periods anymore so I'm clueless lol and no ovarian cysts, I had a CT scan a few months ago and no sign of them. Nor did it show any abnormalities. I only take Bentyl as needed and even then it's not too often. My GI mentioned maybe gas too but it seems odd that it only occurs with solid bm's and not the normal mush I get.

any chance your appendix is mildly inflamed? - it would be on the right side - and perhaps a bigger solid BM would cause the colon to push against it??? - just a thought?

There wouldn't be solid stool at the appendix....it's created throughout the colon.

If it is a slight inflammation of the cecum or appendix, I think that an ultrasound would help determine that.

I hear + feel gurgling there too and my most recent c-scope showed I had mild ulcers on my terminal ileum. Not sure if 'ileocecal valve' is the same as 'terminal ileum'.

I also hear + feel the gurgling on my lower left side too (occassionally) but my large intestines are clear. Perhaps its something in the ileum?

This is my first c-scope after 2 yeras on Remicade, I'm so nervous about tomorrow.." hoping for the best, but expecting the worst"..:P
