What is 'mild UC' exactly? Do you just have proctitis? Sigmoidtitis? Left sided UC? Isn't surgery a little extreme for a "mild" case? I do realise it is a personal choice but I would imagine you'd want to keep yourself whole unless entirely necessary.
Or perhaps you are just asking in advance to be more knowledgeable about all your options in the future.
My body is not quite overwhelming me like it does for others with UC or like it did when I was first diagnosed 6 years ago. I had a colonoscopy in June which revealed mild inflammation of my colon. My cecum, which is the other area of my GI tract to be called 'infected' looked more normal this time around.
I'm not going more than 4-5 times per day. My main symptoms (for the last 2+ years) have been incomplete evacuation and constipation. I rarely see blood or mucous, though I have been seeing both more over the past few weeks than I had in a long time. I don't have diarrhea almost ever, unless I take a laxative or drink too much alcohol. I almost never find myself in a situation where I can't control my BMs. In reading some of the UC symptoms here, it seems like I'm "lucky" to only have these issues.
I'm asking in advance because I think I'm one of the younger UC sufferers here and am concerned that things will get worse as my body gets older. Also, as I said in my original post, I just don't want to be my life. If putting aside 2-3 months to have my colon removed means that the rest of my life will be symptom-free, I am quite
open to the possibility.
