If my pain is Proctitis or side affects Of pentasa enema. I get a cramping pain in my stomach, like a twisting stabbing pain..

Sorry to hear it.

Any other side effects: headache, increased D?

The stabbing pain you describe is what I experienced to mesalamine intolerance.

Check with your doc.

Petah, be sure that you push all the air out of the enema bottle before you insert it.

petah...try to keep people informed that you're on the suppository..NOT the enema.


Your symptoms are that of flaring as well...try not to make it all about the mesalamine.

You could ask the doc for a steroid suppository and change to that. Once you start to improve, alternate with the Pentasa.

Thanks, I think that's exactly what I do Quincy, I've been so frightened since reading the side affects to the pentasa. Now knowing I can't get off them :( it is a sharp pain, usually followed by a movement. Sometimes it's breath taking. Now reading all the meds that everyone is on, I'm hoping it's not the pentasa..

What would be my other options besides the pentasa, or cortisone. I've had other side affects I think.. Ear problems, acne, hair loss. My ears and cramping the worst. I should mention I've been using it on and off for two years

Is the pain right after using the enema? I always have a bit of discomfort and cramping when I use an enema but it's much easier if you squeeze the air out of the bottle before using them.

he's NOT using the enemas...

Petah...go off the supps if you're that fearful. 

I think you're letting your anxiety get the better of you. Could you have a sinus infection?

Is the pain relieved with Tylenol?

Have you tried NeilMed sinus rinse? that might help....
