Very close to remission for the past 6 months and my Dr devil decides to change my meds 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. You almost forget just how painful flares are.  Looks like i'll be having chicken broth for the hoidays! Awesome

It's amazing how quickly we can forgot how horrible flares are. Can't you go back to what meds you were on? Thanksgiving is still a week away, maybe you can get things better before then. I've been really sick for the past 6 weeks. I finally did Cortenema last night and I can already tell the difference. Yesterday I was crying in the bathroom and I am hoping to be almost back to normal by Thanksgiving if the Cortenemas do their job.

I have been taking 4 Lialda tablets with 30 to 40 mg of prednisone for most of the year. This is the only combo that has worked. Finally tampering down to 25 mg of pred over the past 2 month. We haven’t been able to get me off pred and I realize that should be my main goal. He is a very respected gastro Dr that only deals with UC and does a lot of studies. There is a methotrexate study coming up that he thinks could be the key to me getting off pred. The problem is, the study was supposed to start months ago and hasn’t yet. I have to be at 20 mg of pred and completely off the Lialda to join study. They told me 3 weeks ago that it would start in 2 weeks. Nothing. I called Monday and they it should start in about (you guessing it) 2 WEEKS. I am trying to be positive and fight through the pain because I really want to get off the pred. Just a little frustrated with the pain and the timing problem

sorry to hear you struggle. I make any changes in consultation with my doctor. It is ultimately my choice. I don't see how you can blame you doctor for this.

Why is your GI not rxing your methotrexate if you need it? It's an acceptable "off label" treatment for UC - most docs are willing to try it even though there is not much solid evidence backing it's usefulness (a few small studies which show some success) and it's only used for CD. Why can you not try imuran/6mp or remicade?

You are absolutely right. My only frustration is being told to stop the medication and later being told that it will be two additional weeks. Oh and missing out on the turkey!

The study is using methotrexate injections. He had mentioned rxing it in the past but was very confident that the study would be the best way for me to go. I also like that fact that during the study they will be monitoring my condition closer and hopefully are able to help me into remission.

Is this a controlled study? I mean, is there a possibility that you'll actually get placebo instead of mtx?

My GI was happy to rx injected mtx for me without going through a study. I understand studies are important but I think it's unfair to you for him to pressure you into it when you could easily do mtx with your Lialda and not have to change so many things at once.

lol, I know you like your surgery but how is it going to help him, he want to eat the turkey pretty soon. Do you think he'll have a J pouch by next week. smilewinkgrin
