Back up on the steroid - should I take the rest today?

So my GI just called back and at least he sounded pretty sympathetic to my situation.  He told me back up on the Prednisone though - 30mg for a few days then down to 20mg and down 5mg a week after that (or slower if I feel it helps he said).  He said if that doesn't work then we try Methotrexate or Humira. I don't want Humira as I'm not even having any bleeding - just constant watery BMs.  He didn't think the stress I had (my long-term relationship ending) was the reason for the symptoms. He said if I was on the right meds stress shouldn't cause a flare-up like that. I don't know, I guess I want my symptoms to go away. He thinks they will just come back again when I taper.

So question for today - should I wait till tomorrow to take the rest of the Prednisone or just take it today? I don't want to be up all night, I know how it goes with this stuff.

I always take prednisone first thing in the morning because of the insomnia it causes. It really depends on how badly you want it to kick in right away.

Do you immediately get insomnia when your on a higher dose? Or dose it take a few days to kick in? I would hold off till morning and take it all then if insomnia is a problem.

I did decide to wait till morning to take the 30mg. I'm not excited at all about going back up on it though. I feel like it just takes so long to get off of it. Plus I just hate how the high dose will give me the moon face back, bring back more of the cellulite I seem to have gotten from it, and worse those rapid heartbeats. Those are the worst and so scary! And I'm alone now at night so it will be even more freaky to get them.

Yeah, these are some reasons why I don't think I'll ever go back on pred. I'd rather crap my pants than use pred.

Why are you back on it anyways?

Went from normal formed BMs once a day to diarrhea 4-5 times a day almost overnight and it's been like this for a week now. It's only gotten worse. No blood that I can see but I have cramping every day. Tried a low fiber diet for a week and it didn't help at all.

Had a lot of stress in the last week (see previous posts) so I'm not surprised this happened even though it sucks.

I hate all the side effects of pred too and I've only used it twice and the second time wasn't very effective for me. I don't know that I will ever use it again. Don't know if it would help. Moon face I seem to get almost immediately. The funky heart beat I hated too and I also would get so darn hot at times I thought I was having hot flashes. Not to mention being the biggest crab. Hope it works for you and quickly.

I wouldve taken it right away. Thats a day you can start taper faster and a day of less stress on your colon. Im a skinny guy pred makes me look normal weight haha I like it:)
