One's life can go by in the blink of an eye by playing the "just 2 more years and then something will come along" game. 2 years go by and then one starts the game again.., and again, and again. Or one has the courage to move on.
I dont see 2-3 years as realistic for a micro-biome based therapy on par with a powerful drug in performance. TSO- pig whipworm eggs- were researched and then put into tiny studies for a decade or so before the very first larger studies were created, and then it was another few years before the first product became available. Even though it really is very safe, and actially dampens some people's auto immune conditions (it dampened mine a little bit- at double dose) - it is still not available for insurance reimbursement- that could be another 5-10 years. My point is that when something is a few years away, one has to add another 5, and more likely 10 years to that for abailability in anything ither than clinical trials.
For those that tolerate 5ASA's, the world is their oyster though- i'd wait if I tolerated 5ASA's even if they didnt keep me from flaring. I suspect most who end up with surgery eventually ar 5ASA intolerant, because they truly are the only real, essentially non toxic maintenance med out there.
Then some people's UC, even if they had a severe flare here ir ther, is just very mild at all other times and can respond to fluffy stuff like special diets and supplements alone.
