I just saw this in my local newspaper (saturday's books reviews).

Has anyone read it?

Looks like a good read and pretty much covers everything we see on here.

I don't know if I have the strength to read this right now. I get by by not thinking too much about what has happened to me, and focus more on therapies and research. I do not think it would be pretty if I opened up to so much of her experience.

bananagirl..i'll check that book online. I don't really read books about the "like us" experience, I would be more interested in the crap process she endured in the medical/diagnostics system...and it's in Canada.

DB...it doesn't necessarily make us understand UC any better (she actually has CD)...but it might help those who dom't "get it".It could be a suggestion you can pass on to others to read who don't have a clue. You don't have to read it..

Interesting...I don't see that at all.
I see that she's not making light of it, she's saying some things in a humourous way about things/events that are dead serious.

I can tell the story of my MIL who was literally systematically killed by the hospital in a humourous and obviously sarcastic way, but the anger and seriousness is still there.

Basically it's sarcasm, humourous rants of anger, disappointment and blatant truth in a way that's more palatable for others. Comedians do it all the time. We laugh because we can relate (however which way), but at the same time say OMG because some of the things are embarrassing or taboo or so badly screwed up to be even believable.
